I've been looking for a good set of punches for awhile now, and most everything I find online has awful reviews. I got a ruger 10/22 and so far haven't even been able to shoot it, because I wanted to disassemble and clean it first (got it used). That being said,it's usually only people with fantastic or horrible experiences who leave reviews in the first place, so I should probably take them with a grain of salt. So now I'm asking the rest of you, what kind of punches do you all have and how are they? From what I've read the smaller brass ones seem to break like it's their job.

A left jab with a right uppercut makes a pretty good combination, and it costs nothing.

Have you looked at Brownells?

I am not a gunsmith by any stretch, but brass is soft and will deform before steel. If they are breaking maybe you need to use less force or any material. I know some people will use a sledge hammer when the job requires a plastic mallet.

Starrett Punches. Avail from Brownells/Sinclair Intl. Not a day goes by that I don't fondle those things. Some days I actually use them too

Seriously, they're fantastic and worth every penny. You could call it a....Squareshank Redemption?

I just ordered these. Drop forged steel, under 30 bux shipped. Not as pretty as Snap-On or Starrett but should get the job done.

I think I'm going to pick up a steel and brass set of Starrett punches. Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Thanks for the heads up but I don't do Amazon even for 1/3 the price. I hate the way Amazon tracks you and splashes recommendations at you every time you go there. I have cancelled the account I once had and will never go back there again.

well you need to look at snapon, craftsman and others made in USA. if it doesnt say made is usa on it they are china junk.
