A while back I sold my AR, just did not seem to work for me. Guess I purchased it as a nostalgic feeling from my days in the military many years ago. I continued my search for a rifle that would be more in line with what I wanted and finally settled on FN's FNAR. It arrived and it became time to make it "mine". I did some research and spoke to some very trusted sources and purchased a 4x16x50 Explore Optics scope (Explorer Optice is one of those scopes with a dedicated following even though it is not a common brand name..... yet) also added a Harris Bi-Pod. The rifle is a bit heavy and I do not feel it is meant to be a "battle" rifle that would be carried around all day (unless your a young buck), it is meant to be shot from a stable position to keep in tune with the MOA accuracy that FN promises. I put some rounds through it to get the scope as close as possible and on paper, recoil was amazingly light for a 308, now it is time to get to a longer distance range and complete the final set-up and see exactly what it wil do at 200 yards. Explorer! That's been driving my crazy. That's the brand of sights I've been seeing at a couple gun shows. They look nice.

BTW, is that FNAR still considered an AR? I know it's in the name, but still.

Nope, it is basically a browning BAR.

I get <1 MOA at 100yds.

and to the original poster, I like your style... I've got a similar setup (4-16X50 and harris style bipod)

I guess it depends on one perspective on what an AR actually is, for the younger people an AR could be a rifle that can be carried around and be tactical at the same time, to us older folk an AR is something to setup, have a cup of coffee and wait for whatever it is to come within 500 yards of us. Not sure if there is a right or wrong answer to any given solution, just different perspectives...............

That depends what you mean by AR. AR-15, assault rifle, army rifle, Armalite rifle, Austin Realtor...

The day I bought my M1A, I came "this close" to buying an FNAR instead. They were priced within about $10 of each other....not enough to matter (both were over $1,700), but I bought the M1A instead simply because I had lusted after one for longer than I had lusted after the FNAR. No regrets for my purchase, but I'd like to own the HBAR version of the FNAR some day.

I managed to get out to Magnum Sports today for a final sight in and scope adjustments. Started out making sure it was 3 inches high at 100 yards, 12 bullets and a few tweaks and I was there, now came the time to move out to 200 yards, under fair disclosure the rifle was on a bi-pod and I had the butt propped so it was stable, it was all up to the rifle, taking as much human error out of the equation as possible. After 2 (3) shot groups, allowing about 5 minutes between them both groups were within a half dollar size, each had 2 holes touching and were 4 inches high of POA. This will put me on dead center at 300 yards, right where I want it, the rifle did it's part very well and seems to verify FN's statement that these rifles are MOA accurate. If it was not over 100 degrees out I would have gone the 200 yards and taken the targets for a picture, since others were there shooting I left them so they could shoot the unused sections. The Explore Optics scope did not lose it's zero at all, glass was very clear at all magnifications and I feel it is every bit equal to my Leupold at half the cost, plus it has more options on it. Of course time will tell but going forward I will use Explore Optics on all my rifles until performance convinces me otherwise, I doubt that will hapen though.............

What loads were you shooting, the factory or the handloads?

Was the handloads, Sierra 168 gr HPBT with 42 grains of powder, they seemed to work as advertised, will crono them on Friday night and check out the performance.
