So I have to wonder, other than maybe if this should have been in the rifle section, once the supplies of M1's run out, what is going to happen to the CMP? Obviously, everything that was issued subsequently was select-fire. There is no avenue for them to sell the M14 on, and they aren't going to sell handguns, so are they on the road to planned obsolescence? I just got a Service Grade M1. Should I order another one, a pallet of ammo, and then figure out an explanation for the wife? Not really, but, for real, are we the last generation to enjoy this bastion of freedom? and more

They could still sell parts and hold matches.

Sales are only part of it. They aren't just some branch of DLA-Disposition Services.

I don't see the CMP becoming obsolete just because of the supply of M1 runs out. Couldn't they adopt a different rifle? CMP could just dedicate to education / training / competitions and get out of the M1 sales business.
