Well, I have an M&P up for sale, and planned on replacing it with somthing that would:

A) Rotate as a carry piece
B) Work well in IDPA
C) Chambered in 9mm
D) Have high-cap mags

I knew I wanted either a Glock 17 or a Glock 19. After much deliberation, i went ahead and purchased a Gen4 Glock 17 from GTDistributers today.

Edit: WHat backstrap are you using? I'm carrying a Gen4 Glock 19 with no backstrap. Fits my hand well.

I'm no fan of the stippling, but that is a great deal.

No lie, I'm not a big fan of the heavy duty stippling either. Like you said... when firing, it grips really well..... but when carrying, it will RUB YOU RAW unless you are wearing an undershirt.

I put Talon grips on the G30 and LOVE them. They are the ...rubberish ones, not the skateboard style. That grip is amazing.... amazing amazing amazing. I love it. I got home last night and went online to Talon website to order and THEY ARE NOT TAKING ORDERS RIGHT NOW!!!??? Super disappointing. I need another option stat.

Range day tomorrow, gonna put a couple of mags of Speer GTHP 147 through to ensure feeding and hopefully 300ish reloads to break in. Range report to follow.

Speaking of magazines..... Buying enough carry stuff to fill 3 mags is NOT a fun time. 51 Rounds for 3 mags is substantial.

My brother has a gen 3. Stupid reliable just like all my glocks. After I get a 29 I think I want to get a 34 or if I can find one for a decent price a 17L. Nice gun congrats.

Glock reliability is why I buy the . Can, and do they have problems? Of course... But I have had no problems with any of mine.

I grabbed a 17 instead of anything else b/c they make a heck of a zombie gun :)

Seriously, I bought a 17 b/c it is a mandatory addition to a gun collection.

Range Report:

Took the G17 out to the range today and put it through the paces to ensure function. As expected, the gun performed flawlessly except for one FTE. We were shooting reloads, and have had this problem before in other guns, but we troubleshooted anyway with that particular magazine. In about 300 rounds, we could not duplicate it. I also ran 25ish Speer GDHP 147 grainers through to make sure they fed and shot well, and they did.

I bought this to replace a M&P9c, and am very happy with the results. Make no mistake, the M&P9c is a fantastic sidearm, but I did not shoot it well. The grip angle is different than Glocks, and I just couldn't adapt to the difference. The G17 is very quick to aim and a powder-puff to shoot. Follow up shots are a breeze, and quick to accomplish. My only problem is the grip. Not the size or shape of the grip.. the texture. The stippling is some heavy duty stuff on the Gen4's, and although it is nice and grippy, it feels like sandpaper after a magazine or two. Granted, I don't have manly, burly, calloused hands..... the web of my right hand is raw. That is easily fixed though.


Groups with reloads were all in the 9 ring at 10 yards.
Groups with GDHP 147 were slightly smaller at 10 yds.

After we get another batch loaded I will be back out running some move & shoot drills, rapid fire, etc. After 500-600 rounds, assuming it functions well, I will clean it and add to the rotation. I need to run it through an IDPA match too...
