I have a .357 that I would like some info on. Can any of you fellas tell me the model number, type of frame, and date of manufacture? The serial number is 129xxx.

The cylinder is locked up on this weapon, and I want to know exactly which drawings to search for that will help me get this gun back to the range.

It looks like the extractor pin has loosened up. I've got to figure the best way to get the cylinder opened and back to normal.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Victor,

I may be wrong, but it looks like a model 19 to me. If so, it's a "K" frame.
Go to http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve and ask there----plenty of Smith buffs there that can surely help.

Just a suggestion, but you might consider returning the gun to the factory.

I'm sure there are local folks who could fix it, but finding a good one isn't a sure thing.

I'm not convinced that there is anything you should try yourself.

Is there no prefix on the s/n?

I show that a K129xxx would have been made circa 1951.

The Model 19 was produced as a Model 19 from 1955-1999. I think that before that it was just a combat magnum.

If the s/n is accessible, take another look for a prefix.

The ejector rod screws in counter clockwise. The opposite of most screws in the US. If you can get the hammer back enough for the cylinder to turn at all, rotate it counter clockwise as viewed from the position holding the grip.
If it won't turn, the slide plate will need to come off and the cylinder lockup parts will need to be released.. hth

Looks a lot like a Model 27, but that would be an N frame. I had one about 30 yrs. ago and if I recall the barrel was 3 and something inches.

The prefix is an S located on the opposite side of the butt from the serial number. I wasn't sure if it was affiliated with the serial number at first. Thanks for the replies.

I'm sure there are a few of us here, including me, who would be willing to take it off your hands, if you twisted our arms.

Thanks for the information. I called Smith & Wesson attempting to get information leading me to the correct manual for a parts diagram. The Rep acted as if he was irritated with my query. I wasn't impressed with my initial contact.

Anyway, this revolver is one of the treasures that my Father left to my Brothers and I. This weapon will be in the family forever in remembrance of our Father.

that looks like a M27....

Is there a letter such as S or N before the number?

I suggest sending it back to S&W... they are best equipped to do the repair.

S&W has one or two jerks in service... if you get one of them wait 5 min and call back and you will get someone else... or ask for Jeff or Katie.
