I think you need to find some key congressional races in swing districts, zero in on one or two candidates who, with a bit more clout, can be successful in November, and spend your dollars there. It need not be Texas and it need not be a red state.

If you've got spare cash to give besides the GOP and the NRA, look around to see what congressional/legislature races near you could use the money. Then if you've still some to spare, check the national news for local races in other districts or states.

But in all that generosity, don't forget your ministry support if you are a religious person.

I wouldn't say that I've got spare cash... Just that I've become concerned enough about our country's direction that I no longer feel that voting by itself is sufficient. My schedule isn't flexible enough to help anyone campaign, but with what's at stake this election... Well, better to stretch my budget a bit now than a lot later.

This was actually prompted by one of those fundraising messages at the end of a political YouTube video. While I don't think I know enough about the video's author to donate directly to his cause, I figured there are enough like-minded people here that I'd get some good ideas.

I made my largest political donation in a very long time to the Romney SuperPAC just 2 or 3 weeks ago. He's not perfect, but Obama is by far the worst president in my lifetime, and possibly in the history of the country. He makes Carter look like a bloody genius. I felt completely at peace about my donation and consider it money very well spent.

Actually, I am pretty much fed up with "whoever has the most cash wins" stuff. Similarly, organizations like Red Cross paying their 'glorious leaders' hundreds of thousands for salaries and only returning a small percentage of what they take in - just frustrating. I pay my dues to NRA etc to assist with my firearms rights but beyond that, as noted previously, the little extra I have goes to the Salvation Army and my church. Social Security and retirement accounts are adequate - but we are still on a tight budget - might be time for the politicos to be on one also. Of course, that would probably just increase the opportunities for thievery...

I second the idea of donating to a campaign of an appropriately-minded candidate in a swing district. Hubby picked five candidates at the national senate race level and we donated to them. Don't remember all of them, but one was in Michigan. We figure Texas is pretty safe with our national senators, but Michigan has a chance to turn from Dem to Rep, and we gave the guy a hand. If we can turn the Senate over to Republican majority, then even if Obama gets re-elected, at least the congress can start stomping on him.
