Is it worth sending the documents certified mail? Did anyone successfully use it as proof and not have to send another copy of the paperwork to DPS?

I think the best thing certified mail does for you is confirm that your packet was received. That would let you know during the initial 2-3 week period that your stuff was received prior to the DPS posting the initial status that it received the packet and started the process. If you were nearing the end of your period between starting the application and providing your data (1 year I think) I would suggest certified mail so you have proof that the agency received prior to the end of the period. Otherwise, it is really just an added cost.
Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth

You can upload your documents electronically now.
Do the fingerprints early as I have suspicions that starts the background chec process.

I sent my check to the IRS certified mail and the post office never updated the status. Even 3 weeks after the IRS cashed my check, the post office didn't update the status to delivered. I have no use for it anymore. Prices keep going up and service keeps going down. It's no wonder they're close to bankrupt.

That sounds like the way to go. Monday will be two weeks after I sent it certified mail. Neither DPS nor USPS shows any updates yet. I'll scan and upload my forms when I get home tonight. Thanks!

Did you send it return receipt requested?

Note looking at this section of the forum, it has been taking about 10-13 working days to show up in the system. I would bet you will show progress by Wednesday

Alright. I uploaded the documents last night at
https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/contact/default.aspx
Tomorrow will be two weeks after I mailed the documents and it shouldn't take two weeks for mail to get to Austin, so either USPS misplaced it, DPS misplaced it, or DPS can't figure out how to scan a bar code to acknowledge receipt.
