That might also include a warranty maintenance type program...spare parts, etc. If not, then yeah, kind of pricey...

The price is always much higher when it's the government buying. What's the big deal? It's just taxpayer money.

The 1911 never fully left USMC service. The MEU(SOC) pistol and ICQB pistols were both 1911s and were issued to Force Recon and MARSOC units. These new Colts will replace the old pistols and will be issued to MARSOC and Force Recon units and apparently some SRTs. Everyone else will continue to use the M9.

That is part of it. The guns will meet military specs and won't have to go through a 1000 round break-in to be reliable.

Our Marines get leftovers from the other branches, so if they want this for MARSOC,,,,,I say fine. Many won't say crap for other gov't expenditures, yet when it comes to the Military, cuts and cost scrimping are ALWAYS ok with many.

Having dealt with government buying before (in a former life) it is all about the admin costs.

Something has to pay for the "black" projects. Appearing to pay more than they actually do for an item provides a source of untracked money that can do things like design the F-117 Nighthawk.

A lot of SpecOps types never fully left the 1911 behind. After discovering that 9mm just didn't have the punch, they went back.

Just the way it should be.

That price is not much more than what I am considering paying the custom shop for an off-the-line 1911 in Royal Blue.
Colt is single-source for the Marine's 1911. The price probably includes administrative costs, testing costs, costs for spares, manufacturing incentives,
etc.
