Remington 700P or the LTR?

Thinking about getting a Remington 700P in 308. Mostly I would be shooting at paper, and maybe in a remote chance, I would go hunting with it.

Should I pick the 700P which comes with 26 inch barrel or the 700P LTR? The LTR is 2 lbs lighter but with shorter barrel (20 inch).

I handled some at gun show while not staring at the hot policewoman. It seems lonnnng to me and heavy. I do know both long and heavy are good thing in terms of this type of rifle.

What do you guys think?

I have the LTR in .308 and it's a great rifle. Many of the rifles in the Thunder Ranch Precision Rifle course were 20" LTR's.

A good lesson learned was the benefit of keeping the scope mounts as low as possible. The larger objective lenses require a taller scope mount (unless you get a specialty mount) and that limits your elevation adjustment for longer range shots. We had people running out of "dope" at the longer ranges.

I would love to own a Rem 700 or some sort, but there are 2 problems.

1) I'm over capacity in my current safe.

2) I just bought another boom stick that can have me a nice 700 Police or 700 Titanium instead.

Se La Vive.

Maybe next time. Hehe.

LTR it is. I need to settle my reload equipment firest as the cost of bullets is killing me.
