Does anyone have a Blue Book of gun values or know where I can get a true value of an 1849 Colt Baby Dragoon? I am going to trade it or sell it. I dont want to rip anyone off and say it's worth more than it is(Ifyou want to trade me and have a Harley and you feel it's fair, well then......OK ) . I have had this for almost 30 years. All of the serial numbers match and it is engraved with a stage coach robbery.

If it were mine, I would be consulting an expert, rather than trust the blue book as these rare pieces are not always appraised appropriately in the annual publications. (especially if there is unique engraving)

condition...condition...condition! It makes all the difference, and accurate grading is essential...need to have someone who can know whether it's still original finish or has ever been reblued or altered in any way, as well as certification from Colt concerning the engraving ... whether it was done at factory ,or later by outside engraver, and if grips are original to the gun. Small variations in grading can make huge differences in value just like in coins.

Depending on the grade, BBOGV says it's worth between $17,500 and $3,500.

Other folks might do it for less, but if you want to get top dollar, be prepaerd to pay for a professional appraisal.

Remember, everything depends on the condition of the gun and what somebody is ultimately willing to pay :)

I know you said it was a Colt, but is it a Colt made in the 1800's, or one of the 2nd generation guns from the 1970's-1980's?
