Car Carry - Do you feel safe leaving in the car?

Hello again,
First of all thanks for all the questions you guys have answered already and as I am still waiting on my CHL to get here I want to learn as much as I can. Basically when I carry in my car to and from the range, I always feel very worried leaving a loaded gun in the car in case someone steals the car they have a loaded firearm.
I know the chance of the car getting stolen is not super high but just wanted to get some input from the pros. Currently I make sure that if I leave the house with my firearm in the car I go straight to the range and take it with me, otherwise I do not leave it in the car unattended.
Do you guys/gals have any special way of securing the firearm in the car while you stop to get some grub maybe?
Thanks,
Daniel

There are lots of motor vehicle gun safe options. This is just an example....

When I saw the thread title I was going to respond with the same link that tomtexan provided. The center of mass safes are great. They aren't impervious to theft, but they should foil the plans of your typical smash and grab car theft. As an added bonus, they work great when you are flying.

And if you drive a truck, you can take a big step up in price and security with a
Console Vault.

Lock box between my seats & the truck is locked.
It will stop a snatcn & grab. If someone comes prepared w/ small pry bar & bolt cutter mine will not survive. My truck gun is just that too. A truck gun.

I absolutely hate leaving a gun in the car or truck... but sometimes you don't have a choice. The lock boxes with cable are ok, but the cables are easily cut with common hand tools. Console vaults are better, IMO, but not always practical. Good fortune goes a long way here, until the laws are changed and we don't have to leave guns in cars....

I routinely leave mine in my car unattended. Every time as I walk away I make sure to click the remote lock until I hear the horn go off. And every time as I walk off I think of that loaded firearm sitting there in my vehicle. I put it in a place that hopefully most people wouldn't think to look but still, it's not locked away or anything like that. I also don't have any stickers that proclaim me as a gun person so hopefully that will help since i don't advertise that. I will be looking at those safes for sure though. Good luck. Stay safe and shoot straight.

I don't have a safe in the car... I generally just stuff whatever handgun(s) I am carrying under the seat and call it a day.
Over the last couple of months I have developed a habit of removing the magazine and clearing the gun, then taking the magazine in with me wherever I go. This is not something that would be advisable for every person/place....but I do it. As far as worrying about it getting stolen, I carry tupperware. If a Glock gets stolen, I will be upset.... but it won't break the bank @ $399 to replace.

Yep, that is ONE of the reasons that led to me buying a Ruger SR9c.

So far I haven't gone to many places which would require me to leave it in the car.
I eliminated the few which did by setting up auto-bill pay at the municipal offices which contain a Court in the building etc.
However, If I really really need to enter a 30.06 posted place,
I'd be tempted to open the door but not go in and just hollar "Is your Insurance more likely to cover my property and any damages resulting from the theft thereof if I leave my gun under the seat or would they prefer I put it in the trunk since you require law abiding responsible folks to disarm and only allow criminals who disregard signs to come in armed?
Still, I need to get a car safe for instances where I have to go to hospital type places which put up signs in those foreign countries where logic isn't common, like Austin.

Our law is crafted in a way that requires me to leave my firearm in the vehicle from time to time. I don't use a safe. If I had money sitting around to spend on a car safe, I'd use it for another firearm, some holsters, ammo, or other accessories.
As far as 30.06 signage goes, I understand the properly rights argument if we were allowing businesses to prevent open carry, but it doesn't make sense for concealed carry. A business shouldn't know what color my underwear is (if I'm wearing any), or if I have a gun. . . because it's none of their business. They can have any policy or sign they want, but the state shouldn't help them enforce an infringement on my privacy.
Courts, jails, city council meetings and other statutorily prohibited places should be forced to have secure storage on site.
So yeah, I'm occasionally stuck and have to leave a loaded firearm in my vehicle. I'd hate for a criminal to get it and use it for nefarious acts, but I wouldn't feel culpable if that happened. I always lock my doors and alarm my vehicle. I didn't steal it. I didn't commit a crime. I didn't write the law.
I'd also be for a significant increase in minimum punishments for stealing a firearm, theft in general, and using a firearm in a crime.
That's my take.
