Is the Springfield XDm worth the extra $100?

For me it was. Twice. First on the 4.5" for training purposes, then on 3.8" for "sometimes" personal carry. And I may have paid more than an extra $100 at the time. I like most the interchangeable backstrap capablity for fine tuning the grip and the 19+1 round capacity in 9mm.

I have no regrets.

I do not believe so.

You get a 19 round magazine and interchangeable backstraps with the XDm vs the XD.
To me, the $100 is not worth that difference

If the XD fits your hand & you like the feel, you dont need the extra backstraps.
The rest of the "Match" package will never come into play for the average shooter.

My oppinion & YMMV.

I don't know if the $100 difference is worth it relative to one another, but I do know that the XDm Compact 3.8 as a free-standing design is worth the price it is selling for relative to other manufacturer's products in the market.

XDM 3.8 compact - my first firearm - is a pleasure to hold, operate, break down, fire, and bolster in my <www.TripleTHolsters.com> IWB horsehide/kydex holster.

The XD stock sights are not great, ok but not great. Many replace them with night sights or other type sights.

The XD has the fixed back strap, if it fits you.. great.. but how will you know it fits best if you do not shoot several times with the different back straps of the XDm ? Stealing a quote from my motorcycle life and twisting it a bit.. The best you have shot, is the best you know.

All of that is just assuming your comparing apples to apples (same barrel length).
As others have pointed out,, if your looking at the Compact XDm .45, there is no gun for gun equivalent in the XD line... I have three Springfields at this point.

I like the XD line, and will have another.. But my next gun is an XDm compact .45 (unless the Springfield Micro compact plops in to my lap first)

I will add this by way of comparison....

My wife owns a gen 3 Glock 19, the rough equivalent model to the XDm Compact 3.8 in the Glock lineup. I have not swapped out the backstrap on my XDm, leaving the "medium" one in place, and so equipped the grip on the .45 caliber XDm Compact 3.8 is smaller in circumference than the grip on the gen 3 G19. Comparing apples to apples in 9mm, the XDm carries 13 rounds (2 less than the Glock) in the short magazine and 19 rounds (4 more than the Glock) in the backup magazine. In .45 ACP, it is 9 rounds in the short mag and 13 rounds in the long mag. If you count the +1 in the chamber, that is more available rounds in the compact gun in than the full-sized M&P45 which I also own (two 10 round mags +1). In 9mm, I think the XDm with unloaded magazine is a tad lighter than the XDm (which uses stainless steel magazines compared to the Glock's polymer magazine), but it isn't enough difference in that category of gun to say that I'd prefer one over the other because of weight.

And by the way, I still really like my M&P45 very much. It's just that with regard to daily carry, the very small CW45 Kahr and the compact XDm 45 3.8 are both more practical for me.

Single biggest advantage the xdm has over the xd is the changeable backstraps, imo. For folks with very large or small hands, it might be worth the extra $. If your reasoning is the "match grade" barrel or "improved" trigger, I wouldn't spend the extra $. My xdsc (3" barrel) would out-shoot my xdm with the 4.5" barrel every day of the week. After reading literally dozens of "xd vs xdm" threads over on XDTalk, it really just comes down to personal preference and what features are important to you.

I have shot the XD and the XDm. The M for me is worth it as it fits my hand better.
