I thought my P238 sucked...

I thought my P238 sucked...because after the first round, I had to pull the trigger multiple times to get it to fire. Thought it was my thumb riding and pushing up the safety. Then I thought it might be the magazine...and then I thought maybe it was not going into battery. Nope, it would not push forward. Had a guy at the range clean it, that was not the issue either. Even thought that it was too dry, then we thought it was too wet. Was it the new trigger that I had installed? Nope. Maybe Sig made a lemon? Nope...

Well, long story short, it was me. I was not shooting it properly. It was because I have started to utilize the SRT (Short Trigger Reset) on my bigger Sigs. Glocks seem to operate the same way, as do my HKs. My P238 sucked because I was not letting the trigger out far enough. It will not fire unless the trigger resets all the way out.

Any of yall done something this goofy? Also, I wonder how many times someone sells their gun because the shooter is broke? :banghead:

My 9mm P226 had a failure to feed the other day. I cleared the jam, finished the magazine, then retrieved the unfired round to see if anything was wrong with it... I'd accidentally loaded one of my friend's .40S&W rounds.

I have done the trigger reset is not quite as short thing when transitioning to my Glock after shooting 1911's a bunch. Also, pulled the trigger one too many times after switching from semi auto to revolver at the range. Also, the first time I tried to shoot skeet with a SxS, I forgot to turn off the auto-safety, and then tried to work the pump after he first shot. Wow, I must be a moron. I should sell all these guns off before I hurt myself.

Oh, and I nearly chopped a piece of my palm off by trying to engage the safety left-handed on an AK in the store earlier this week. I think I managed to avoid bleeding on it, though, so that's a plus.

Well at least you've got that going for you.

I don't remember which part of my hand I caught in it, but it is VERY possible to pinch yourself in the safety on one of those things...I didn't bleed, either, but it left a pretty good mark.

Another option would be to practice more with fewer guns.

Oh I bled... By "nearly chopped off", I meant that it didn't quite manage to cut all the way through. So instead of missing an 1/8"x1/4" chunk o' hand, I've got an 1/8"x1/4" skin flap right at the meaty bit where my thumb joins my palm.

I just don't think I got any blood on the gun.

And I think the skin flap staying attached is what's made this merely an "annoying" injury... The sales guy who was helping me went and got a bandaid and some paper towel, and I left it pretty soon after I got it on. I'd intended to go home, peel back the flap and put some neosporin on it, but in the probably ten minutes between injuring myself and getting home, the flap was completely sealed to my hand and the wound had stopped bleeding. I've been keeping a bandaid on it to prevent dirt and grime from getting into it at work, but they've all come off clean (except for the first one I put on after getting home Wednesday afternoon, and I think that was my fault for playing with it).

Yessir, I have been limiting what I take for a little while now, the wisdom of that practice had become evident. Of late I have been taking the Glock, as I carry it and want to keep up practice, and a couple double action revolvers, on account of I am not a very good shot with them, and wish to improve. Dry firing and the .22 LCR I got recently is helping with that. I will occasionally take one of the single actions, either in .45 Colt or .357 for grins or noise, though. That gets a bit expensive though, as I haven't set up my reloading stuff yet. Gone are the days where I just had to take everything with me every time I go. That gets reserved for the couple camping trips we go on every year, or when we are out on my wife's family's property. I do thank you, as a good reminder in the form of sage advice is always more than welcome. :thumbs2:

Wise old men have often said "Beware the man with only one gun."

How many guns you shoot at the range isn't nearly as important as how many you carry.

Consistency in gun type, operation, holsters, and method of carry builds proficiency that will stand you in good stead in a bad situation. Lots of variation in those areas leads to confusion of the type you experienced in situations where it wasn't a big deal. On the street it's a much different story.

I figured your problem was going to be what I and many others had with the 238... the first of every new reload/mag was not firing. Called Sig, and first question "Are you releasing the slide using the slide stop mechanism?" Yes I was..he said not to, that it robs the gun of another 1/2 inch of momentum needed to load the round properly. After I started using the slingshot method of releasing the slide, never had the problem again. Several have told me they were having the same problem, and when I would pass that info along, they stopped experiencing it as well.
Carry on!
