Barack Obama will be in Austin on Friday for a speech. His campaign has procured Auditorium Shores for the speech. This is a PUBLIC park. I presume it will be fenced off.

The following is from the campaign website;

Allowed/Prohibited items:
Guests and their belongings are subject to search upon entry or re-entry. You can help keep the lines moving quickly by leaving large bags at home.
The following items are prohibited:

Weapons of any kind

I am looking for help in getting a RESTRAINING ORDER to prevent the exclusion of CHL holders with their concealed handguns from this event. Is anyone willing and able to assist?

Please contact natkins@austin.rr.com

I would tread very carefully with this one This is a situation I wouldn't mess with this unless I knew a lot more about the Federal laws. Osama is a presidential candidate, and he is under Secret Service protection. I have some dealings with these people, and although it was always under pleasant conditions. They also made it clear they didn't have any problems with having someone disapear for a while. Remember the operative word is Secret, and unlike the CIA and NSA they never seem to come under public scrutiny.

Not being paranoid, but it is possible your posting here is being studied and noted.

According to the Secret Service website;

Today, the Secret Service is authorized by law to protect:
The president, the vice president, (or other individuals next in order of succession to the Office of the President), the president-elect and vice president-elect
The immediate families of the above individuals
Former presidents and their spouses for their lifetimes, except when the spouse remarries. In 1997, Congressional legislation became effective limiting Secret Service protection to former presidents for a period of not more than 10 years from the date the former president leaves office
Children of former presidents until age 16
Visiting heads of foreign states or governments and their spouses traveling with them, other distinguished foreign visitors to the United States, and official representatives of the United States performing special missions abroad
Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election
Other individuals as designated per Executive Order of the President
National Special Security Events, when designated as such by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

Since we are not "within 120 days of a general presidential election" and I don't know of an "Executive Order of the President", I don't think the SS has any jurisdiction.

Now it is current conspiracy theology that the SS can "disappear" someone, that might be a problem. And of course the conspiracy advocate will say "AH HAH" since no one you know has "disappeared" then it must be TRUE.

I'll stick we RULE OF LAW.

Any takers?

I'm a little confused on what you are trying to accomplish. What purpose would a restraining order serve? Is that intended to keep people away from you? Doesn't it only apply to the person for which it was ordered?

You could just do the smart thing and not waste your time going to see him.

There have been protesters that are picked up and disappeared for a few days or even a couple of weeks. I shouldn't have implied that they disapeared forever. Clinton had a couple of protestors that went away for a couple of weeks, no one knew where they went until they were released a few weeks later when they decided that they were harmless and no charges made.

I want a restraining order to prevent the organizers from BANNING people with CHL's and concealed handguns from attending.

Since no one seems to care, screw it.

Can a restraining order do that? I thought restraining orders were meant to keep people away from you.

You can get a restraining order for almost anything. The ones we are most familiar with tend to be to keep people apart, but the environmentalists get them all the time to stop various projects.

Heck, I guess I should have tried to get one last spring when my daughter was graduating from UT to keep Bill Clinton from being able to show up as a speaker. :oops:

Could it be that there is a federal statute regarding weapons around presidential candidates. If so, pre-emption law in Texas would not apply. Federal supercedes State. Just a thought. If so, I'm not saying it is right, just a thought....

Subject to a SEARCH??? What has happened to our society.

Does Mr. Hussein Osama Obama (who wants to ban all semi-auto firearms) suspect someone will want to cap him? :roll: Well, let him live with the same fear as all other Americans.

In 1984 I saw Geraldine Ferraro, Ann Richards, and Walter Mondale on the State Capitol Grounds and nobody was being searched by the Gestapo ....

I've met both Robert and John Kennedy as a young boy (at different times) in the 60s, and I didn't remember them having much security either. I met George Wallace once he had a lot of security around him, but he was only getting around with the help of a wheelchair.

Oh, but you're forgetting. These people are "better" than the rest of the population. Rules, laws, and customs do not apply to them.
