Anyone know about these? It looks an awful lot like a commander size 1911. I picked one up on the cheap at a pawn shop this week. From what I can tell it was manufactured in 1995, but has the rubber grips they used in 1996. I got the original box and magazines with it. It looks to be in really good shape with minimal rounds fired.

Your pistol was the Rock Island 1911 of it's time, good basic 1911 at a low-ball price.
They are typically accurate and reliable. Most Colt parts interchange, grips being the major exception.

Thanks, those are some good looking grips for the price. Think I'll polish the feed ramp and make it a truck gun. Or maybe a carry gun if its really reliable. Its not too pretty or expensive to use.

resurrecting this oldie as i have a question regarding the llama max c/f 45

when my father in law passed i made sure his 1911 (the aforementioned llama) made it's way to our house and not the pawn shop. i've polished the guts and cleaned up the exterior, ground down some burrs on the slide and frame rails and now it's running like a champ. only issue i'm having now is that the mag release likes to slide out of position and lock the slide halfway back every once in a while.

while this weapon certainly isn't going to see carry duty or IDPA sessions, i still like all my weapons to function properly... anyone have any ideas on how to stop a prodigal mag release from escaping?

It's been a while, but I think I ended up using a Colt mag release in a Llama. IIRC the OD on the left side was a little smaller on the llama so I had to turn it down a bit to fit.
