I, like many others, have heard all of the negative reviews about the cheaply made Hi-Point pistols. Many people claim that Hi-Points jam, explode, have FTF/FTE issues, catch on fire, cause earthquakes & global warming, and eat small animals. However, I must disagree with all of that. After hearing all of the negative reviews and listening to people complain, I decided to go out and buy a Hi-Point. Let me just say... WOOOOW!

The Hi-Point C9 works great. I have shot many rounds through this gun and it just works. Not only does it perform flawlessly, it is very easy to shoot accurately.

What do you think?

Hi-Points are known for actually being pretty reliable. They will go bang when the booger hook pulls the bang switch. They can save your life.

They are also big, awkward, and heavy.

I do not put Hi-Points in the same category as the pot-metal, "ring-of-fire" pieces of garbage like a Bryco, Jennings Jimenez, Raven, or Lorcin.

However, I am still more willing to trust my life to a better brand like S&W, Ruger, Glock, or Springfield Armory.

Used Police trade-in S&W Model 10's can be found for not much more than a Hi-Point and are a much better choice for self defense.

The problem with the Hi-Point guns....pistols or carbines.....is being seen in public with one.

Now that would explain why some people are so afraid of open carry being legal.

If money is very tight with you and the Hi-Point fits the budget, I would rather see you carry it instead of pepper spray . We are very blessed that we can afford to spend more money on handguns and I want my carry gun to the the best, that's why I carry the M&P.

This literally made me laugh out loud.

I own other good brand name guns that I will be carrying. I was just blown away by how good the Hi-Point pistols are for the money.

I bought a c9 a long time ago cause I wasn't sure what caliber I really wanted. Great shooter. I will say I have had some stovepipes with lighter grain 9mm. However, I have a .40 carbine and it is bada$$! Accurate, reliable, tactical stock, optics, light and laser...it's pretty darn sharp! One thing for sure, it will get me to the safe if needed!!

I've heard they're reliable. I've never owned one so I can't comment with personal experience one way or the other on trigger, ergonomics, reliability, etc.

I do know that you can get some very nice handguns for only a couple hundred bucks more with stellar reputations. If you absolutely, positively can't spend more than $200 on a gun, I'd recommend a shotgun over a hipoint if we're talking about home defense.

Considering there are so many fantastic guns in the $400-$600 range, I'd recommend a good budget and savings plan over a hi point personally, but if someone likes it and is comfortable with it, its better than harsh words!

Well I didn't purchase the C9 because I can't afford any other guns. I have other expensive & dependable handguns. I do, however, understand and agree with what you're saying.

The reason behind posting about the C9 was sorta to brag on it. I can honestly say that I could carry the Hi-Point c9 and not think twice about it. It's def. a dependable firearm.

I gathered that from your post, but since you wanted general thoughts on the hi point, figured I'd throw mine in there.

I'm glad yours is working well.

One of the first guns I bought was a Hi-Point 45. I was probably more accurate with it than any other gun I have owned. For a couple of years it was my bedroom gun.

Besides being accurate and running well, if it ever jammed I could use it as a pretty good bludgeon.

I wasn't sure what that thing looked like, so I did a search. It looks big and clunky, and its only SINGLE-STACK? I guess if its what you can afford, then you've gotta do what you've gotta do...I'd rather find a used Ruger, though.

I had a customer tell me he was going to re-finish his Hi Point, and asked if I had any suggestions for refinishing one.
