Does anyone have a Kimber Solo ?? Any problems ?? How does it shoot ??

It is known to be touchy with certain bullet weights and brands of ammo.

That's what I hear about the 938 also. Seems like they want you to use 124-146 grain

My wife just got one a few weeks ago.
Has only shot Hornady hollow points to be sure they will shoot defensively, as well as Winchester White Box and Federal ammo.

It is a nice shooting weapon.

I have had one for over a year now and love it. I took it with me on a recent trip to Colorado as it fits in the console of my vette just fine.

It is touchy about ammo and I use TAP 124's and my on reloads with 124's and 4.2 grains of titegroup. I have over 500 rounds through mine and have not had a failure..

Make sure when you take it down to clean you get the little spring back in the right place. The manual has it in red to make sure you get it.. I missed it the first time and things don't work so good.

I am really interested in possibly getting one of these for my wife. She just took her CHL class and we are waiting on DPS now. She wants to carry my Walther TPH which shoots great but is only .22lr. I would love to convience her to get into a Shield, PPS, Mustang, or Solo. Given the scarcity of the Shield and Mustang and the price of the Solo, the PPS seems like the probable winner, but I sure do like the looks of the Kimber.

How about the Springfield XDs? Same size as the shield, but it's .45 ACP.

I sure do love my PPS! It's great for EDC.

I would love the XDs for her, but she does not like too much recoil. 9mm seems like it is the best package for light recoil, compact size, and reasonable capacity, but that XDs would really be sweet. Gonna save that one for me I think!

I shot the one my friend had. He just purchased an all stainless one. I do NOT like it.

It's a uncomfortable kick and seems snappy. I don't know if it's due to the 124 grain, or what? It was a pain for me to keep shooting that thing. I can shoot a .45 comfortably in a 3" barrel, but that thing seems to have a bit harder kick? After about 60 rounds down the pipe, I was done.

I do not like the trigger pull. I don't know if it's 'cause I'm used to single action, but I just find a bit more slack that I'm used to. That's just a very subjective thing and as for me, I do not like it. Though I found it a bit more tolerable in my Ruger P95DC which is a DA/SA trigger.

I could not focus on getting back on target. Every time I had shot the thing, I had a hard time getting back to what I was shooting at. I don't know if it was due to the snappy recoil, or the lack of control on the thing itself. It had NO serrations on it to control the weapon better on the back nor front. Kind of disappointed in that considering how much the bloody thing costs.

All in all, not my cup of tea.

I felt the same way, when I shot my wife's Solo (same stainless version)
Until I loosened my grip, rather than strengthened it, and then it felt very nice and could easily 1-hand shoot it.
With my normal grip, like I use on my SW M&P or Glock 19, It was very difficult, with a relaxed grip, it was great.

I kept adjusting, Teamless. When I loosened my grip, it felt as if the bloody thing was going to jump out of my hands. My friend then put some skateboard tape on it. It did help a bit, but still has that snappy result. Don't get me wrong, he shot well with it. He was hitting 3-4 inch groups at 7-9 yards. It's just my personal take on it.

He shot maybe about 400+ rounds through it and it started FTE. He was using bought 124 grain ammo, and not reloads. He used it before and it shot fine. He cleaned it, greased it before he took it out to the range. It just left a bitter taste in my mouth knowing that he barely put that many rounds and it started to FTE. Don't get me wrong though, I love Kimber. I am just.. disappointed.

I've shot both the Solo and a Shield. I like the trigger on the Shield better (& I shoot a M&P in IDPA). The Solo is a bit slimmer if that's what you need. Both guns can be hard to handle; it's just a natural result of their size. I really wish Springfield (hint, hint...) would come out with a 9mm/40SW version of the XDs.
