Does the USPS accept ammo shipments? I have always had the belief that ammo cannot be shipped via USPS. The reason I ask is that I recently ordered from Midway-with a couple of coupons it was a great deal. When checking out, I selected UPS standard. Later that day I received a shipping notice email with a UPS tracking number. Today I checked the UPS tracking information and the following message appears:

As requested by the sender, UPS has transferred this shipment to the local post office for delivery to the final destination.

As I am on a Rural Route, packages are not delivered but must be picked-up at the nearest P.O. (20 miles away). Should I be concerned about walking into the P.O. and picking this package up?

(c) Small Arms Ammunition. Ammunition is classified as a Division 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, or 1.4 explosive, depending on the degree of hazard. Ammunition that is regulated as a Class 1 explosive and designed to be fired from a pistol, revolver, rifle, or shotgun, as well as associated primers and blank cartridges (including those designed for tools) and propellant powder for use in any firearm, is prohibited from mailing.

I seriously doubt Midway would do anything against the law. It was shipped UPS and transfered to usps so I wouldn't worry. But, DON"T open the package in the Post Office.

I've mailed ammo before. I packaged it and brought it into the post office, sent it off. No issues with it being delivered, ever. I have also received ammo in the mail... but it came directly to my house.
