So, I was making the rounds thru the various pawn shops in my city not really looking for anything in particular when I came across a nice brand new Mosin Nagant. I say brand new because it still has the cosmoline all in it, the sling is still wrapped up as is the bayonet (which I don't think the serial number matches the rest of the rifle) and it has the two little ammo pouches. They want $139 for it. Which is about the going price on one so that's not a bad deal.

The next pawn shop I go to however has one also. No bayonet or ammo pouches, the sling is already mounted, it's obviously a used firearm, and they want $225 for it. It's not the first time I've seen over-priced used guns in that particular pawn shop. I saw a used XD9SC (with only one magazine) that they wanted $625 for.

Anyways, I laughed and made a comment about the high price and that I'd just seen one for almost half that brand new. He just kind of grunted and nodded his head but didn't say anything. He did have an M1 Garand that looked in ok shape for $1095. I don't know if that's a good deal or not.

^ buy from there first. Better deal and it is a good program (can't believe I just said that about a gov program)

Was the more expensive Mosin a carbine? M44 carbines tend to be more expensive as are the Finnish made guns.

Well crud, I didn't know to think about that. How can you tell? It did say 1942 on it. So, I assumed by that it was probably Russian.

MGS usually has them for about $30 less. Those are high unless they were carbines are had other collectible marks or features. I just picked up a Swedish Mauser with a Finnish Army stamp at a local pawn shop. Score!

Without looking at the barrel, a Finnish Mosin generally has a nicer looking, more figured stock. The bottom gun here is a Finnish M39: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/show ... stcount=65" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There are no new m/n rifles, the ones you find here have been reconditioned, most have dark but shootable bores, and depending when they were made some of the machining is rough, take them for what they are, a piece of history.
There are enough variations that you can build quite a collection and for the most part quite reasonaby.
All of the ones that I have seen were used in wwII . Buy one and get some cheap ball ammo and have fun at the range.
