I have made a habit of every 6 months or so firing my carry ammo out of the mags I carry and replacing it with new ammo. I recently went to the range and attempted to fire through my carry mag of Corbon DPX, a load I have seen very impressive ballistic test results with. The third round did not fire. I kept the muzzle downrange for a while to make sure it wasn't going to fire. I unchambered and checked for a firing pin mark. It was there. I rechambered the round and tried again. Nothing.

After doing some searching on the net I found a topic on another forum discussing Corbon's quality control. Specifically on the DPX line of ammo. The comments were disturbing to me to say the least. People were having the bullets pull completely from the case with a light tug with their bare hands. The OP of the topic posted the picture below of his DPX ammo he had been carrying. Notice how the crimp lines are not even at all from one round to the next. Anyone else have any issues with DPX or other Corbon ammo? I am a little weary of carrying this now.

I've had some that got a bit set-back after being chambered umpteen times, but nothing else. FWIW, all of mine are 9mm.

I have never had any issue with DPX. It is my primary carry. Maybe I don't shoot it enough though.

Oh, forgot to mention mine's not the DPX stuff... Just their regular 115gr JHP +P.

Yeah, it is very expensive to run DPX very often. I like to run through my carry mag every once in a while though when I can afford to replace the carry ammo. Just makes me feel warm and fuzzy when all the rounds go bang and nothing jams. This time I left feeling like that round could have cost me my life. Not a good feeling. Oh i should have stated in my OP that mine is 9mm as well.

So I just took a look at the failed cartridge. It's the round on the left and it doesn't seem to have a crimp line at all.

Its unlikely that I'd start throwing rocks at Cor-Bon this early in the game. I have a couple of 9X19s that are omniverous with any 115/124 ammunition. The longer than std 147 and all copper boolits don't have the same reliability track record in the BHPs(plural) or the Kahrs.

I 'think' case neck tension in the Cor-Bon 115 JHP isn't as snug as in glued in Ball ammunition. Using my non-professional calipers, the boolitt dia seems to be .0005" less in the + P 115s.

Just a thought, if we want a 115 JHP stepping out at 1350, a half a thou smaller diameter and a tad looser case neck tension could be a trade off.

I had the same problem with some of their .40 S&W ammo a few years back. I had several that had bad primers in a 20 round box. Cor-bon said to send it in and if it was bad they would replace it for free with a fresh box but for 25 dollars a box I decided it wasn't worth it and haven't bought any Corbon since. There is better ammo for ALOT cheaper out there imo.

Right. I am sure they would do the same for me but I just don't think i am gonna carry it. Wilson Combat makes a very similar load. I might give that try. Still really expensive though. I just like the idea of an all copper bullet at +p velocity. Though I am sure modern bonded bullets are just as good and cheaper.
