Somehow I like the XDm better without the Pearce Grip

For some reason I noticed that when I was holding any gun I own that I only use two finders, my pinky never actually holds the gun, its just sort of there. So just for fun I put the original piece back on and for some reason the gun feels better in my hand, and when I grab it with two hands it just sit better and feels better.

I am going to take it to the range tomorrow see what kind of effect this has on accuracy but I just never thought I would not want the Pearce grip. I am fairly new to shooting and I always had it in my head that my pinky has to do something but I guess without thinking it never really did anything.

Just had to share this as this even surprised myself.

I use the short mag without a Pearce grip extension on my XDm-45 3.8, and it feels perfectly natural for my pinkie finger to just wrap around the bottom of the magazine. I have no trouble controlling recoil this way at all.

While I can comfortably shoot both my PM9 and XD9 with their magazines without pinkie extensions, I've found them both easier to get a more stable grip quickly out of the holster with the pinkie extensions in place. With the PM9, it is, in fact, most commonly carried with the longer magazine in place, not necessarily for the +1 capacity, but for an even further enhanced natural grip upon the draw.

I put one on my G27 many years ago and after only a few months decided I didn't like it either. I ran into another couple at a range one day shooting their brand new G27 and they saw the extension on my mag and asked me about it. I let them try it. They loved it and asked where they could get one. I told them they could have mine and I'd trade them my mag with it already on for one of their regular ones straight up. We traded and both of us were happy.

Now, years latter I've sold both .40's, switched to .45's, and the G30 has it's own little extension built in and I like this one. Go figure.

I kind of like it on my gun, just because it is that much more surface area to grip. I don't have a problem gripping the gun (I don't really think the pinky adds that much control), but if your hand was sweaty, bloody, injured, or you were fighting for control of the weapon, I would think the more grip, the better.
