Texas Campus Carry

I have been looking at SCC websites and other similar groups for a couple of months and I cant figure it out...
Why is it that in five states across the country students with a state issued CHL can carry on campus but not in the great state of Texas? :txflag:
Over the last 2 years Senator Jeff Wentworth has put forth 4 bills and amendments to bill to expand the rights of law abiding students only to be shut down by state legislators, we as citizens need to take steps to protect all Texans everywhere. Please get behind groups like Students for Concealed Carry . you can find the Texas chapter at

Its time to take a stand for Texas Students.

Texas doesn't allow good guys to carry in college classrooms because the 60% to 70% Republican majority didn't want to pass it. People can make all kinds of excuses but it doesn't change the facts. Speaker Straus would have got it on the calendar if the Republicans wanted it to become law.

Last year they got to vote on me exercising my rights. This year I get to vote on them keeping their jobs. Quid pro quo, Baby!

Imagine if we had 60 to 70% Dem's, the bill would not have gotten as far as it did and we would not have the Parking Lot Bill or Range Protection Act.

Personally I feel this is the year that Campus Carry will finally pass. A lot of political capital was spent last session fighting for the Parking Lot Bill despite lots of money being poured in from corporations that were against us all the way, I expect CC to be at the top of the agenda and it will need everybodys support in a professional vocal way...

I feel there is a difference between real conservative Republicans, and RINOs...and I agree wholeheartedly that if it had been the Dems in that percentage, NOTHING would have gone past them that was pro-2A.

I think you are re-writing history. The bill passed overwhelmingly in the house. Almost all republicans were co-sponsors of the bill. However, it got bogged down in committee in the Senate where it needed 21 votes to get out. All republicans, if I'm not mistaken, voted for the bill, but they did not have the 21 votes required to get it into the full Senate for a vote. It was 2 dems from San Antonio who changed their minds at the last minute, who caused the bill not to get out of committee.

Correct,
2 Dems AND ...

And Jimmie Don Aycock, (Republican) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmie_Don_Aycock" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who ironically represented Killeen where the Luby's massacre took place.
succeed fellow Republican Representative Suzanna Hupp,
(Luby's survivor who testified for Second Amendment rights)

I am angry that I can not "not" vote for him because he was redistricted so I can't vote against him now.
When I contacted him in 2011, his office said they didn't care what anyone in Burnet County thought since he wouldn't be their guy next time, even though they voted him in last time.
I replied I was amazed he forgot Luby's since he drives by where it used to be. and pointed the finger of shame at him.

Most Republicans are pro-2A ... Jimmie Don Aycock needs a wakeup call.

Didn't Mario Gallegos also flip his vote? He's my senator... looking forward to voting for whoever's running against him.

I think it's you who are rewriting (or maybe forgetting) history. The House bill was killed in the calendars committee in 2011 and never got to the floor of the Texas House for a full vote. Thanks to Joe Straus and his cronies.

Wrong again. It was reported favorably out of committee in the Texas Senate. Then it was procedurally blocked from getting a full vote on the record in that chamber too.

The Senate bill never got out of committee. Wenworth attached it to another bill as an amendment and that bill was withdrawn by the author until the amendment was removed. Then after negotiations, he attached it to another bill and removed it from the first. When it went to a vote it was deemed to be not germaine to the bill and it was removed.
Wentworth had tried to pass his bill as stand-alone legislation but twice failed to muster the 21 Senate votes needed to bring it up for debate. So he resorted to trying to tack it on to other legislation that was already being debated.
in the House, where the GOP has a supermajority, more than 80 of the 150 lawmakers had signed on as co-sponsors.

personally I think Wentworth and Strauss need to go.....away.....far, far away. They've been there far too long, gotten far too comfortable.

Wentworth got beat in the primary. So he's out, AFAIK.

I wonder if they can get Strauss out, and vote someone else in.

Eddie Lucio flipped his vote on campus carry, due to some bull that was told to him from the good folks (donors) in Kingsville.

The guy I wanted to run against Lucio said he "wasn't ready". So, we are finding someone who is ready.

CSSB 354 passed out of the Texas Senate's Committee on Criminal Justice on April 5th, 2011. I remember this because I was closely following campus carry last year. How closely? Well, I drove to Austin for the HB 750 hearing in the Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee and then returned to Austin to testify for SB 354 at the Committee on Criminal Justice hearing, because I believed it was that important.
