Went to Academy to buy ammo, left with .22LR Rifle :)

I drove to my local Academy to pick up some HD ammo for my Mossy 500. I have wanted a .22LR Rifle for quite some time and had my eyes set on a Ruger 10/22 but that quickly went out the window bc of the price... basically I wanted a rifle that was cheap and cheap ammo, just for the range, not really going to be putting a scope on it or any hunting as of now.

Well I saw this Marlin 795 sitting there with a price tag of $119 when it was $149 for as long as I remember at this Academy, and after reading quite a few reviews I wanted this one but thought I could find it cheaper and I did. MInd you when we got to the register it rand up at $149 but the manager discounted it since their price tag was wrong.

So long story short, I now have my range toy... a Marlin 795, and I may add a scope at a later time. As soon as I got it home I disassembled it, cleaned it up and oiled it.

The only thing I don't like is the 10 round mag that comes with it, I wish this rifle had a 25 or 30 round mag that I could get. Oh well all good for now. Taking it to the range this Saturday with 500 rounds of .22LR High Velocity from Federal.

Yes, there is a Marlin subforum as well as many others.

Czech it out. ;-)

it's the funniest thing...that same thing happens to me all the time! I go in to pick up some charcoal, ammo, clothes, etc. and I end up walking out with a handgun or rifle. I swear, it's like they pump some kind of chemical in there that only works on shooters, and they end up buying more guns.

Congrats on the purchase. You'll enjoy countless hours of shooting for $15...I love my .22s. They are more versatile of a rifle than most others (IMO of course). Small game, Hill Country deer (illegal, but in a TEOTWAWKI situation no one will care), hours of plinking, and costs next to nothing for ammo.

:tiphat:

I have seen horror stories with this one... I am going to drop by Cheaper Than Dirt store one of these days to see if they have the stick 10 rounder and get a few of those.
