Hello gang,

My name is Jason and I am posting my first entry into "the waiting" room to signify my joining the elite group of other eager CHL applicants as we quest for our legal ability to pack heat. I have to say that I have read quite a bit on this forum over the past month and am quite impressed.

I completed the CHL course and sent my packet off on January 30 certified mail. They were received by the DPS on February 1. I was excited to see that the DPS website has changed my status from "Mailed packet to applicant" to "Processing application" on this being the 28th day of my wait for plastic.

Would it be too much to hope for to get my plastic in the next 2 - 4 weeks if everything continues to go well? I spoke to a guy at a shooting range that I go to in the Fort Worth area that said he got his about a year and a half ago and it took about 45 days for him to get his plastic. I am praying for a miracle like that myself, but any advice would be appreciated.

I guess in the mean time I will continue to take my ruger P95 and Glock 27 out every weekend and unleash some frustration caused by the waiting process!!!!!!!!!

Regards,

Jason

Carry concealed at home. Get used to that feeling. When you go out the first time with a license, it won't feel so weird.

Welcome, Jason! My best advice is to practice, consider some classes, consider IDPA. And expect it will take 90 days for the license to arrive; convince yourself of that. You won't be as anxious about it and, when it does hit the mailbox, it'll be a wonderful surprise.

(P.S. Don't tell Longtooth, but I have a Glock 27, too.)

Thanks for the tips all. I have been passing some of the time by reading the law book that I got in my packet. I am really trying to retain as much of this as possible and play through scenarios in my mind to determine lawful versus unlawful exposure and discharge of my sidearm.

Do you or anybody else have a recommended holster for the Glock 27? I figure I shoudl go ahead and do my holster homework and get one chosen and broken in around the house while I am waiting.

Thanks again you guys...this site is very helpful!

Regards,

Jason

My 27 is a "sometime" carry. I just use a simple Galco Ultra Deep Cover for it.

The pluses: Easy to put on and take off; good shape retention at the mouth; easy to conceal; good presentation speed

The minuses: The nylon/plastic J-hook is a stress point and can break; the hook isn't very deep and can't accommodate a thick belt; the extra leather at the mouth for shape retention adds thickness to an already thick subcompact (my full size 1911s in a Milt Sparks IWB doesn't stick out as much as the little 27 in the Galco); no cant to the holster (I'd personally prefer an FBI cant)

It's a very serviceable holster, but I might look at a Comp-Tac Infidel were I to do it again. (http://www.comp-tac.com/).

Good luck!
