Well the FNAR vs. AR10 thread got me thinking about this and I didn't want to hijack it.

I had already been looking at M1A's and hadn't ever seen the FNAR. I think I like it (and the price) better but wanted to ask those of you who have them or have shot them about the barrel configurations you have and like.

This is a want, not a need. My range is only 300yds so I probably won't ever shoot further. Never been a "rapid fire" guy as ammo costs temper that anyway. With that said, I think the lighter barrel will be fine for me but not sure about length... I would guess the 20" is going to shoot better at distance but not sure 300 constitutes "distance" for that rifle.

What do you guys have and like? Any other commentary welcome and appreciated.

I have the FNAR standard 16 inch barrel, bought that one because of the big price difference, I will never get it hot enough to worry and it will shoot as far as I could be capable of. One thing I noticed and continue to be impressed with is how accurate it is, amazing. The recoil is very managable. I have been shooting it at 200 yards with quarter size groups as long as I don't pull one. People also complain about the price of the mags, first of all they are very well built and should last a lifetime, I purchased 4 new mags off of gunbroker and the average price paid was $29.00. The only slight negative aspect is they are a bit heavy, then again it was built as a sniper rifle and not to be carreid around a battlefield.

I've got the 20in fluted. Can't beat it.

Nice to hear- quarter size groups at 200yds is very accurate in my book. I don't shoot that well with sandbags, on a most days. Mag prices don't bother me... I pay that much for good 1911 mags.

the big difference seems to be about 2 lbs extra in the 20" hvy bbl. I don't plan on carrying it around much but 2lbs is pretty significant
