Annex Mexico

I think America needs to Annex Mexico as a Territory. We can take the Drug war (if you want to continue that) right to their door step and the South Mexican Border is smaller and will be easier to control than the Northern border. This election made it pretty clear that is we don't annex them they will annex US

U.S. territories like Guam and Puerto Rico get no Federal representation and cannot vote in Presidential elections.

Do you have any idea how much it would cost for us to Annex Mexico, how many spare trillions do you have? If you think the national debt is bad now that would blow it way out of the water. Besides that it would make all of their problems ours and we have enough political corruption in our own country, we do not need theirs as well. No thanks, the only thing I would like to do is totally seal the border and make those who want to live here do it legally........

They gets the dollars. As you pointed out they are not states but territories.

Why oh why do we want that headache? Drug infested, poverty stricken, drug lord ruled desert piece of land. We have enough drug problems here, thanks. I have a heart for the poor people stuck there, I really do. But in order to help them we can't be so broke ourselves.

Besides Having Mexico close but not under our laws gives people options from time to time. I remember years ago, my grandfather used to get a medical herbal cream for skin lesions on his back. One could not get it here because it was not FDAvapproved, but it worked wonders for him. I have known several people unable to afford dentistry here to go there and come back out of pain and happy. Now this was a few years ago, but it is likely still an option.

I agree. Rather than annex I would like to see the states of Mexico invited to join the United States. I would also like to see the provinces of Canada given the same opportunity along with Cuba.

Right now we are getting the people of Mexico, but not the land. In the end everything is about land.

If the states of Mexico voted to not join the United States, I think that would tell the US a lot about the current situation we have, where we are the people relief valve for their country.

A larger US would help us compete globally, give us tremendous resources to develop and would provide millions of job, pulling Mexico into the 21 st century. It is a small world today. Mexico is much closer to us than Ohio.

We'd need to get America more American before we do that. Otherwise, they'll just skew our vote to give them all our tax revenue.

Annex Mexico?

Why on Earth would we want to do that? And why would Mexico agree to that? Or do we just take them by force? :fire :fire :fire

Of all the  things I read on this forum this is probably the "rlol" !

The nearest thing I can think of in modern history to this was when East and West Germanies were reunified. The problems were ENORMOUS, not the least of which was trying to integrate two peoples who had such a vastly different view of government's role in their lives.

You do realize that Puerto Rico just had a referendum for statehood that passed, right?

No, it doesn't make it a state, and the three previous referendums failed, but it's interesting to see the changing attitudes.
