Now that's funny. For those who don't own a Mosin Nagant, you should give one a try. They are very inexpensive and a hoot to shoot. The recoil, noise and fireball combined with a serious looking spike bayonet make for an interesting experience. Mine is significantly more accurate when fired with the bayonet extended (barrel harmonics?) but that tends to attract strange looks at the range.

I personally own a 91/30, Model 1938 carbine, M44 (side folding bayonet) and a Finish M39. Love all of them and wouldn't trade them.

I disagreed with, "If your rifle breaks, you can just buy another one."

It should be, "If your rifle breaks, you have 11 more just like it at home. They're cheaper by the dozen."

Two good reasons to shoot with the bayonet - better accuracy and strange looks. ;-)

:iagree:

I'd do it just to draw the strange looks...But y'all know me...I could draw strange looks without a bayonet...Ask "Wife Unit"...

Anyone fired the regular one and the carbine? I was wondering which Nagant to get.

The M38 carbine is the better balanced and best handling, because it doesn't have the side-folding bayonet like the M44. They're harder to find and more expensive, although still "cheap" by rifle standards. You do gain some "oomph" to the recoil, though.

The M91/30 rifles have the longer sight radius and improved accuracy.

All of them can benefit by adding Mojo sights, or a long eye relief scope using a Darrell's Scout Mount.

If you could tell me just how accurate you were with that carbine I'll buy one today :D

Well, the ammo is always a big variable, but my Polish M44 will hold 3" at 100 yards using Wolf FMJ. I haven't shot it enough to find out how accurate it really might be. It has a sweet trigger. I think I paid $60 for it about five years ago.

3MOA is good enough for me to go plinking with, I'm too blind to shoot far past that without optics anyway. Plus I was thinking about getting a couple as gifts for some friends who have an interest in shooting. They sell the carbines for $90 now-a-days, so I suppose I'll go ahead and setup the FFL.

Aim Surplus has the M38s for $89.95. Here's the website http://www.aimsurplus.com/ If you have a type 03 FFL (C&R) they will mail it directly to your house. They will need a signed copy of your license on file with them before they ship. If anyone is interested in becoming a cruffler go here http://www.cruffler.com. The license is $30 and renews every three years. They usually pay for themselves with your first mail order purchase.

Actually I'm in the process of ordering it from aimsurplus, the FFL was on file but my dealer said AIM would have to contact them.

I'm gonna go ahead and order, hopefully it'll work itself out, lol.
