"Safety" trumps freedom

I liked this country a lot better when everything wasn't so "safe." The fact is, you can't be both "safe" AND free. In freedom there is risk.

Daniel Jensen wasn't running from the law, he was trying to protect his home from burning up. Yet, Pinellas Park Police tasered him in the process.

Trying to fight a fire with a garden hose was a very stupid thing to do. That being said the police are not there to protect us from our own stupidity

He wasn't fighting a fire with his garden hose. He was wetting down his own property (fence & roof) to prevent the fire next door from spreading to his property.

Sounds reasonable to me. I'd have done the same thing.

From the article:
Captain Sanfield Forseth with the Pinellas Park Police Department said officers could have charged him with obstruction for not listening to an officer's orders.
What a wonderful free country we live in. You can be charged with a crime for spraying water from a garden hose that you own onto the roof of your house because someone who has a semester of police academy (where they generally receive no training in fire fighting) under their belt said not to.

I heard about this incident on this morning's Walton and Johnson show. The officers stated that they tased the man to protect him. "Billy Ed" had a pretty good idea, If you wanted the man to stop squirting water from the water hose, why didn't you go over to the faucet and shut off the water?

The officer using the Taser and the Sgt. ordering him to do so should spend 20 years to life in a federal prison. This is what happens when people allow police officers to be turned into soldiers. It's a different mindset and it's dangerous.

I would have to add some form of punishment for the captain who's response was that the victim (he is a victim in this case) could have been charged with obstruction for not "following orders"

I could be wrong, but if the man was wet...then add an electric taser....ummm, couldn't that have resulted in...well, really, really bad stuff?
