Anyone using, or tried Bayou Bullets? They're made in Gramercy, LA, by Donnie Miculek, Jerry Miculek's brother. I've been loading nothing but long cased revolver rounds, 38,357 and 44, but recently decided to get .45 acp dies so I could better afford to shoot the 1911. A buddy gave me a few 200 lswc's and 230 gr lrn's to tinker with while I decided on a rather small bulk order to get started. So, I decided to give the Bayou Bullets a try since they're made just right next door (figuratively speaking). My small order of 500 230 gr lrn's came in Monday, and I was really surprised when I opened the box and found shiny, dark green pills with gold colored stripes in the lube grooves. I knew beforehand the bullets were lubed with a special dry lube (not moly coat) that Donnie gets from a company in Australia, but had no idea they would look like they had been painted with Testor's Model Paint and dried to a slick, non-sticky finish. These things are so smooth, you can stick your index finger into the middle of the box of bullets and effortlessly push through to tough the bottom of the box. Neither the box, or the stuffing paper has any evidence or green lube .... both looked as clean as new. I'm still not sure about the fancy gold belt painted into the lube groove, but it sure looks impressive while they're sitting happily in the box.

I took a few minutes extra at noon today and loaded up five rounds (5.8 gr Unique/CCI LPP/seated 1.27) to function test in my Kimber. Absolutely no smoke (and this from Unique), no residue in the barrel, perfect cycling. Tonight, I loaded up the other 45 pieces of brass from that box to take to the range tomorrow night to get a better feel for reliability/function and accuracy (relative term, considering the shooter). From first impressions, I guessing I'll be making my next revolver lead order with the green gator snot lube on them

I sent them an email asking about it, I like the idea.
I asked about the process involved with my cast bullets and how many 1 ltr. would coat.
May not get a reply till after the holidays????

I'd fork out $100 to try it...I wanted to try this back when I saw some other brand with different colors..!!

Ps......I hate to buy lead bullets when I cast my own, but I'd buy the stuff to coat them with if it were any good..!!!
Wish they had colors so I could make different calibers or weights in one caliber another color????

Thanks for the kind words Mr Surveyor. You should be pleasantly surprised with the performance, low smoke and clean bbl.
To those who are interested in trying the coating for home use send me an e-mail.
For now you can have any color you want as long as it is green.
BTW, the Gold stripe is simply a byproduct of the coating process and shows up more prominently on the large caliber bullets with big grease grooves.

I got a reply same day. I was just asking about bullet availabilty; I didn't ask about the lube - I wish it was available in smaller 'sample' quantities. I'm intrigued by it, but I'm not unhappy with the 50/50 alox/thinner mix I'm using now.

The process is kind of what I thought it would be, but I'm not setup yet. I will need to get a used oven in my shop which I was planning on doing anyway to use duracoat or the stuff at Brownells on some guns.
I'm pretty sure I will buy some, I just need to get the equipment and set it up first.

Your quite welcome, you can get by with an old houseold oven. I am on the lookout for one myself. Once aquired I intend to make a video of exactly how a homecaster might want to coat his own bullets.

I finally made it out to the range today to try a box of Mr. Donnie's purty green boolits.... here's how to describe them..

The Kimber barrel was well cleaned prior to the range trip, and nothing but the box of Bayou Bullets was sent down range (well nothing else from that particular handgun ). When I cleaned up all the hardware back at the homestead, the Kimber barrel showed nothing but powder residue (Unique), and not much of that. Took maybe 5 minutes on the barrel. The SP101 and Super Red Hawk, both shooting "uncoated" lubed lead took a bit longer. The SP was shooting up the last box of homecast bullets lubed with alox that a buddy had given me....not terrible on the leading (obviously very smoky), but probably took 15 minutes and a lot of Hoppes #10 and BC Lead Cloth. The SRH was shooting very good quality, properly lubed 240 gr lswc's from a very good company, but still took at least 15 minutes to get the minimal leading out (that Birchwood Caseys Lead Remover Cloth is some good stuff). I'm now very anxious to try Mr. D's Bayou Bullets in .38/.357 and .44 magnum.... I do love me some lead, and I think I'm falling in love with the color green.
