I am looking for a budget 12 ga shotgun and think I am going to pick up the H&R Pardner Protector. It costs like $200 at Academy and wally world but I cant even find a used Remington 870 for less than $250 in San Antonio pawnshops and they typically aren't in the best shape. The price is right and so is the design does anyone have any experience with it? Will I be able to install a ghost ring sight and maybe a light?

The protector is a great value shotgun. I've got 2 of them and have never had any problems. I'm pretty sure you can trace them back to Norinco as an 870 clone. You can add any after market accessories for an 870 except barrels.
Just check out the reviews on the web. I don't think you can go wrong with that purchase.

I heard about the Protector on this very site, and after winning an Academy gift certificate at a sporting clays shoot I decided to buy one. Love mine, just wish mag extensions weren't so expensive.

There are a bunch of reviews online. This one helped make my decision:

Only modifications I have made to mine was to put on a Magpul MOE fore end, along with a Streamlight flashlight in their mount. This took a bit of work, as the fore end did not want to go on. A bit of time with some sandpaper and a wood dowel and all was good.
No need for any other changes for me, I didnt need anything more, didnt want a pistol grip or other stock, etc.

I went with the Mossberg Maverick 88 at Academy. $189 and it functions flawlessly. Put 25 rounds of bird shot through it 2 days after I bought it and had no problems, except a little bruise on my shoulder.

I think I am going to go with the Pardner Protector with the 18.5" barrel. I am just looking to install ghost ring sights and maybe a flashlight.
Thanks for your insight and experience.

I've been thinking the same, save the 150-200 over the cost of the 870 to practically get the same shotgun
