Sold to a super nice forum member! Thanks guys.
Up for sale is a Sig 522 semi auto .22 cal. rifle in as new condition equipped with a new 2X red/green dot scope. This was purchased new by me and has always been stored in a climate controlled environment and has ZERO rounds through it. It has an adjustable folding stock and is well know for it's quality and reliability. Comes with the original Sig and one extra Black Dog 25 round mag. Also includes original Sig blue case, stock extension, lock, manual and all paperwork. Like I said, basically new and super cheap to shoot. I'm located on the west side of Houston and all transactions will be cash, FTF - sorry, no shipping. Price is a firm $425 since this is "as new" and has the scope and extra mag - plus no shipping or transfer fee. Buyer must fill out a bill of sale and provide a copy of CHL or Texas DL. Please contact me if you have any questions and thanks for looking.

It's a nice rifle and I might be interested in buying it but not providing a copy of my CHL or DL.

For a private sale, it's really not reasonable to ask for a copy of a DL or CHL. It's reasonable to write down either the CHL or DL # so that you have it as a record.
Even as an FFL, if I take a firearm into my inventory from a private seller, I don't take a copy of a DL/CHL (I do ask an out-of-state person to send me a copy of their DL, but I explicitly ask them to mask their photo and DL# - I just need a document that verified their address). It's not required by any law, nor does it fit a "reasonable and prudent" method of verifying identity. The only think you should ask is that the person is legally allowed to own firearms (seeing the CHL should be sufficient proof) and to keep a copy of the address/phone of the buyer, in case you need to reach them. Anything beyond that in a private sale and you could potentially expose yourself to liabilities (lets say the copy of the buyer's DL/CHL was stolen from you, or that the buyer discovered they were a victim of identity theft - you're going to be answering some uncomfortable questions even if you had nothing to do with it).
If it REALLY bothers you that much and you want to keep your butt covered, make the buyer do a transfer through an FFL. That's easy and then your hands are 100% "clean".

It is indeed a nice rifle. It should go quick. I am looking for a .22 AR that way I can put my slide fire stock on it

Sorry guys, I agree with the previous posts. I should have worded my requirements more carefully. I do not need an actual copy. What I meant to say is that any buyer will be required to fill out a bill of sale that has a space for you to fill in either your TDL or CHL. This is the way I've always done it and no one has ever had a problem with it. Thanks for the comments and it is indeed a nice rifle.

Yup, it's fair to record one of the numbers in a private sale. When I did private sales, I required a CHL. This made some potential buyers angry, but that was the most-reliable way I could be certain that the buyer had a right to buy a firearm (that's not 100% perfect, but close enough).
