I cut across a parking lot to avoid a huge red light traffic backup, and got busted by one of Wylie's finest. I've done it many times, figures i'd get busted a month before I move.

Pulled over, he asked for ID and insurance, and I let him know i'm a CHL holder, and it was on my hip, and he might see it when I went for my wallet, and he thanked me for telling him, and that was that. No extra nerves or anything. All it all it was a great contact, but then he ruined it by writing me a ticket.

It was at the intersection of westgate and FM-544. The light there backs up in the morning if the person in the right lane isn't making a right turn, so when that happens, I usually cut across the little ATM parking lot deal there.

The wife and I just bought a little house in Sachse, just 5 miles away (still on the Collin county side) and we're closing on it next week.

We were a little disappointed we couldn't find what we wanted here in Wylie, but my wife found the one she likes, and I'm sure you can guess who'se opinion's more important

I thought it was funny too, but ESSOASSO is till against traffic law in TX.

What gets me is watching the people drive the shoulder when traffic is backed up on the highway

I wished they would pass up DPS and get busted :)

This happens every single day Wife Unit and I commute into town in the morning...

The 288/Beltway 8 exchange involves getting off BW8, and driveing down a feeder access to the light, turn right and get on an immediate (3 down to 2, down to 1 lane) onramp onto 288 north...

It backs up pretty good, but it moves for the most part, so I do the "proper thing" and get into line with everyone else and wait my turn (like they taught us in school) to get on the freeway...

I have only seen one takedown in a year of making this commute...Harris County has the jurisdiction here...

Saw a guy this morning halfway on the shoulder, and halfway off in the grass, just to bypass everyone waiting their turn to get on 288...

Fraps me to no end...Especially when the folks up ahead just let them in after they see them barreling up on the shoulder like that...

I feel like dropping a dime here and see if we can generate some revenue for the county...

But that would just make me mean I suppose...

An old term, I guess, but I learned it from a LEO and have kept the term alive.

ESSO was an oil company with gas stations all over the place.

ASSO is/was a term with onomatopoeic reference to an anatomical orifice that would not meet the ten year old daughter rule.

People who pulled through ESSO stations (or mobile/texaco/66/76/sinclair, etc) were considered to be such nether personalities, thus "ESSOASSO."

Stevie, I'm right there with you on that. My commute is from Keller to Just off downtown fort Worth. Every day I see multiple occurences of

- cutting parking lots to avoid a light. The car wash a few blocks from my house should be designated a state highway.
- Blatantly runniing redlights long after they have gone red.
- Going straight in a foreced right turn lane, at high speed, to pass the line of cars queued up in the through lanes. Hwy 377 @ N tarrant you can witness this at nearly every light cycle.
- Staying in a right turn only lane that is moving quicker, only to force their way into the through lane. I just about had to whip a woman a couple days ago when I wasn't buying into that one. She was a bit peeved.

I've even emailed local PDs with tag numbers and descriptions, but most of them could care less.

I just think it's the height of arrogance to think their time is more important than my time and my personal safety and that of all the other people who are doing it right.

A PD cannot act on traffic violations unless they observe them.

I quit trying to be a traffic cop about 15 years ago. Trying to make my point is not worth the potential wreck or violence. If you want to force your way into a spot that does not exist, you can have it.

This is not quite true, though it is an old belief that is common. An officer cannot arrest for an offense he did not see, but he can still issue a citation for it, or even file the charges in the court. This may be hard now since a traffic stop is legally an arrest, so identifying the driver is harder, but it can be done.

Most people are also unaware that they have the legal authority to go down to the local court and file a charge on their own. They have to be able to identify who the driver was when it gets to court, but they can go with just a tag and see. They also DO have to be willing to show up in court and testify, obviously. San Antonio Municipal Court used to do this for people filing complaints on PD officers driving. They should do it for anyone's driving.

I have to agree here. I still want to reach down for the reds an awful lot, but I did not install any on my car for a reason. It is much healthier for me to stay calm and let them force themselves in, than to get upset and high blood pressure and all over it. When the city/county/state wants to pay me to be a traffic cop again, I will worry about it then.
