Not quite a J-Frame...

Yesterday I ended my search for a small snubby revolver. Shortly after posting a thread seeking one earlier this week, Aaangel PM'd me about a LCR he had on hand that he'd like me to look at. I immediately jumped on it, and doing business with him was fantastic. He's a great guy, thorough, and true to his word.

Aaangel delivered a gun that he claimed had 100 rounds through it. Upon further inspection last night, it looks 99.9%. This is hands down the cleanest used gun I have ever bought. If he hadn't told me, i'd put the round count at <50.

I had researched the LCR heavily before, and have since sort-of had the bug for one. I was open to anything that was a snubby revolver, and pocketable. I about half expected to pick up a J-Frame, but after shooting today i'm glad I did not.

This afternoon I was able to put rounds down range with both the LCR I just purchased, and a buddies back-up gun, a S&W 442. It was nice to run them side by side, and I came away moderately surprised. Here is the ammo I purchased to run:

-Speer Lawman 125 gr TMJ (50)
-Speer Lawman 158 gr +p TMJ (50)
-Speer GDHP 135 +p Short Barrel (50)

All of this stuff ran clean and accurate. Accurate being subjective, and by that I mean as well as my inexperienced snubby-handling could manage. Combat accuracy after the first few cylinders was no problem. Out to 15 feet or so, I had little trouble keeping everything in a pie plate sized group. Even rapid fire grouping was acceptable once I got the hang of it.

The LCR that I bought was set up with the Hogue Grips that come factory, and some smaller, lower-profile boot grips better suited for pocket carry. Shooting both the standard pressure & +p stuff gave me no problem with the Hogue grip. The +p was stiffer and more noticeable with the boot grips, but not uncomfortable.

Compared to the 442, the LCR was much more comfortable to shoot. Something about the polymer frame really soaks up recoil. I was impressed. The 442 wasn't uncomfortable, but given the choice of the two, i'd rather have a range day with the LCR. I will give the 442 credit here: it is smaller than the LCR. Not by much, but just a bit. The LCR is skinnier, but the trigger guard is huge compared to the 442. Otherwise, i'd call them even.

Anyway. Thought i'd give my impressions. They are worth exactly what you paid for them.
