I like the rest of the world has heard plenty about the recent shootings so I don't want to turn this into another thread about gun rights or insane people but rather about carrying differently now.

I went to get food shortly after the news broke of the elementary school shooting and I was carrying and I admit I was a lot more aware of the firearm on my hip and felt a little off. I found myself pulling on my shirt a bit more and while no one noticed, I did. I wasn't concerned that I'd have an issue with law enforcement but I was concerned that if people saw it printing or anything so close after a violent act that they might overreact and while I would sort of understand that I was still worried. I didn't disarm but I was thinking of putting it in the glove box for the rest of the day.

Did you carry differently or think a little more about your carry after these events? Do you think other civilians, even here in Texas, would overreact if they got a glimpse of something that they thought was a firearm especially so soon after a tragedy regardless of a CHL?

I've noticed that most people don't seem to grasp a CHL and where you can and cannot carry unless they themselves have one and while it is concealed there are more than enough discussions of printing here to make it a worthy discussion.

No, I do nothing differently....except to be thankful that I live in a state where CHL is easily possible. Constitutional carry would be even better. I know that most people simply aren't that observant, and I take the normal precautions to carry discreetly.....without being obsessive about it. And frankly, I don't really care what someone else thinks about that. I'm not going to stick my head in the sand because they have chosen to do so themselves. I'm a sheepdog, not a sheep, and the sheep are often wary of the sheepdog because they have teeth like wolves. Furthermore, if such a person "over-reacted" and attacked me, why on earth would I want to be disarmed? I carry a gun EXACTLY for the reason that people are unhinged.

Thanks for the response. I wasn't saying that they'd overreact and attack it was more along the lines of them verbally saying something or taking the case to the manager or something of the sort which prompted my shirt pulling. I carry for the same reasons you do but I am aware that there are people out there including in Texas that aren't fans of CHL or more likely aren't really aware of how it works. Again these were just things going through my mind waiting for Chick-Fil-A to make my sandwich.

Nothing different except maybe add an extra mag for perceived hightened threat level.
AFter double figure yrs of daily carry you will be the same too.

Born in a cloud of Condition White and spend their whole lives there, unless or until the day they actually face a life-threatening situation. Then the "Condition White" habit leads to a brain on overload and panic freeze.

I've had "fear of printing" days myself. But the odds of being divulged is statistically quite low. There are a whole host psychos running around, many of them are taking mind-altering pharmaceutical drugs. For me, this latest mass murder is a harsh reminder. Keep your firearm close at hand! Not in the glove box. It's prudent.

Carry as usual, but I understand and felt your concern. People can and do overreact.

Though I'm not worried about printing this a good point that the general public are or will be even more "scared" if they ever see anyone with a gun in public whether it's printing or loading rifle or ammo cases in the car, or etc.. Unfortunately the media has created a population group that is totally scared of guns even if other people are legally able to carry them.

I just made sure I carried everywhere. after the last month of not being able to carry to the hospital, and always being at the hospital we're getting back into the habit of carrying now, it feels right. I don't really worry about printing, I've learned to dress so that I don't print, close family often can't tell if I'm carrying, they just assume I am.

The media is a great perpetrator and creator of fear and since there is no real coverage of citizens legally defending themselves with a CHL in the media it certainly made me wonder what people would think. I'm glad that most have had no issue and I'm more than ready for my good holster to get here!

I know what she'd say and while my idea to put it in the glove box might not have been the best thought that really wasn't the point of this thread. As I said I kept it on my hip and had I had no issues but the thought certainly crossed my mind especially since parents were just off to my right learning of the tragedy as their kids played in the play pen.

Can you imagine what the more sensitive must think when they see an old CANNON on the courthouse lawn?

It's gotta be traumatic...
