West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin wrote:"I don't know anyone in the hunting or sporting arena that goes out with an assault rifle," he said. "I don't know anybody that needs 30 rounds in the clip to go hunting. I mean, these are things that need to be talked about."

I don't know anyone that goes hunting with a select fire weapon either. Never used a 30 round "clip" either, only ever seen 5, 6, and 8 rounders myself.

I have a friend that regularly hunts hogs with his AR with a large capacity magazine. He doesn't use a "30 round clip" or an assault rifle.

First off, he probably made a correct statement. He doesn't KNOW anyone in the hunting or sporting arena that goes out with what he would call an assault rifle (assuming that he means an AR or AK styled rifle). I don't KNOW anyone who plays professional basketball, does that mean that no one does?

We know that AR type rifles are used for hunting all the time. As was pointed out, AR's are used all the time for hog hunting. Satuday morning, I can confirm 100% that a doe was in the sites of an AR10 in Kimble County. Said AR had a 20 round magazine in it........no clip, except for the one at the end of the single point sling.

AR rifles are used in the "sporting arena" on a daily basis in three gun matches.

Sounds like WV Democrat Joe Manchin needs to meet more of his constituants, then he would know someone who hunts with these weapons and uses them in the sporting arena...........but they don't use "high capacity clips".

BTW, Mr. Manchin.................THE SECOND AMENDMENT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HUNTING!!!!!! :banghead: :banghead:

I have some 15 round stripper clips for my carbine, maybe he meant two of those. :headscratch

The VERY first time I ever went deer hunting, the friend that brought me to his lease hunted with an AR15 with a 20 round magazine in it. She shot a doe in the back of the head at 92 yards from a tree stand. Later that night, we used his AR to go coyote callin'.

Just because some senator who exchanges his Guccis once in a while for a pair of nice expensive insulated hunting boots doesn't know anybody who hunts with an AR15 doesn't reduce the legitimacy of the gun. I don't personally know anybody who drives a Lamborghini Galliardo either, but that doesn't mean that I think you shouldn't drive one to the 7-11. I'll bet the senator doesn't know anybody who duck hunts with a low end Mossberg pump action shotgun either. That doesn't make his $2,500+ Browning more legitimate than a Mossberg.

Senator Warner (D, VA) has just broken with the NRA and announced that he will support an AWB.

We are in deep, DEEP trouble folks.

I for one wish the NRA would quit endorsing these guys. Chatting on another board with some WV folks. They say Manchin passed some meaningless 'pro-gun' bills while keeping anything meaningful bottled up in committee. Heck, a few years back didn't the NRA also endorse Dingy Harry? Now he's saying he's in favor of some gun grabbing as well.

When I saw the grade they gave Joe Straus that told me what the grades are worth.
