Has This Ever Happened Before?

Has there ever been such a scare/buying-frenzy/gun-bashing like what we're currently experiencing after a gun-related incident before?

After Obama's election, there was a buying frenzy, but not as bad as this. I've never seen stores take their guns off their shelves before. I'm not sure I've seen as much public outcry by the uninformed before.

Has there ever been a "perfect storm" in this matter before? Also, is this a "perfect storm"? What positives are going on right now? One positive is that Gov. Perry is saying that we should be able to carry anywhere.

I was too young to observe what led up to and the reactions of Clinton's AWB.

Status:
NBC and other national networks have pulled shows like "American Guns" and "3 gun nation".
Most large-chain stores are pulling weapons.
Gunbroker prices are disgusting
I can't find reasonable in-stock prices on ammo
Pmags are $50-60 PER MAG on several mainstream sites....
AWB imminent, but we won't go down without a fight, thanks to the NRA

The "positive"
local gun stores will hopefully inherit some business!
I have been stocking up for a while.

I see you are boycotting places, why. The Walmarts in Temple and Belton, TX., are both sold out and waiting on shipments of AR style rifles and all other 223 and 308s. The Academy is sold out of the same.

I think I'm about to take ALL of my firearms on a white water rafting trip.

I sure hope the raft doesn't flip.

Academy has pulled all ARs from their web site. And the three stores I went to yesterday and today have pulled them off of the racks and put up other guns in their place. There were still a few in stock, but they were not on display. I find it hard to support a sporting goods store that caves to "public opinion" no matter how misguided it is.

Hey Moby, that was the trip where I went with you! Wow the water was cold and deep that day.
I must have hit my head on a rock, I can't remember where it was exactly.
Crying shame about all our equipment and firearms. What a loss.

On a brighter note, I had to call the NRA and got ye old recorded message to the effect that they were backed up and to please hang in there, they'd get to me, just be patient. (of course, I'm liberally paraphrasing - ...and yes the word "liberally" is still honorable, in this context anyway...)

I wasn't in the least annoyed.

I pleasantly asked, once a human being got on the phone, why such a long wait? (I'd already guessed) Scads of folks are signing up.

Whoopee!

Academy CTD and Dick's made policy decisions that I disagree with.
