So I went across the street the other day to visit the neighbor and he shows me his new purchase, his new XDs. I instantly fell in love with that little .45acp. He bought it at a range/store and immediately lubed it a little bit and put 25 rounds through it with no problems. He said his hands knew he had shot it but said it was no big deal, but this is not a target gun anyway. I could not believe how small and slim this .45 is.

Anyone here have one and if so, what do you think of it.

Several here do. I carry his Big Brother. Plain XD compact in OD Green. Excellent choice.

i always read one of 2 things about the xds, its great and perfect for a compact 45....or its too small and cant get a good grip.

To me it looks to fit the category perfect, sub compact 45

Absolutely love it! It's become my main gun in my ccw rotation as of late. Tiny, but solid and accurate.

Decent article in American Rifleman this month on the XDs. Bullet velocity and energy was too low for my taste (~694 fps and 250 ft-lb) out of the short barrel (although they called it adequate for expansion). I'd use +P or short barrel ammo to make up for that.

I like it so much that it replaced my G27.

I just bought my XDS the other day and will probably hit the range tomorrow for its first firing.

IMHO, full size guns are the nicest to shoot, but I have concealibility issues at work
so a pocket full of 5 + 1 or 7 + 1 rounds of .45 is going to work great for me. Especially since its onbody carry
pal is my SR9C with either 10 + 1 or 17 + 1, depending on whether I'm at work, or on my own time.

Rented the XDS at my range the other day. Great single stack .45! Every thing the Glock 36 should have been imo. As for recoil. It isn't that bad if you shoot bigger calibers regularly. Put it this way my j-frame with .38 Special +P and my 10mm have more felt recoil. It is nothing for a person with moderate handgun experience. It was a nice piece. The grip texture is pretty serrated to give you a firm grip. In a SD situation that is what I like but if you want to put 200 rounds down range in a day it might be a little abrasive on the hands until you build up some calluses.

My next carry will be this or a PPS 9mm. Love both but it is hard not to like that big hole!

Another forum I frequent has a long thread on this gun, with many people indicating they have light strike problems. Springfield has responded to their complaints with "keep the gun wet" which of course means heavily lubricated. This has worked for some, not for others. Whether or not it helped the issue, I can imagine everyone now has a nice oil stain on their clothing.

To me, this means there is a design flaw. My father is a retired auto industry exec - his one piece of advice (besides buy American) is to never buy a car in its first model year, because all of the bugs have not been worked out. I think this is good advice for guns too. I wouldn't buy one for the next few months - enough complaints and Springfield will have to adjust the design or improve their manufacturing processes.

I just bought one last weekend at the gun show. Took it out yesterday for the first time.

It is not my Kimber, but it shoots well and is pretty accurate for a short barrel. It is not my full-time CCW.

I put about 100 rounds through it without any problems, except that it did not like my reloads. They would not chamber. I think it is because of the shape of the bullet. I will test that right after Christmas.

I am very pleased with the gun though overall.

Great suggestion. So far, I've tried half a dozen types of commercially manufactured ammo, from high quality defense rounds to cheap range stuff, and my XDs has eaten them all without any failures.

I love my XDs, but still carry my XD45 compact daily. Next summer it might get some time in the rotation when a pocket gun is more appropriate for the day than my normal IWB carry. And if I ever start to carry a BUG, it will be the XDs.

Several hundred rounds through mine now, and absolutely love it! More fun to shoot with the 7 round mag and a full-size grip, but great concealability with the five-stack in place. Not difficult to control with either, if you have handgun experience you'll be shooting accurate double-taps even with the shorter magazine.

Haven't had a single light strike with mine.

I've discovered it's not fond of PMC Bronze. Runs like a champ on it, but when chambering the first round by hand-cycling the slide, the pistol sometimes doesn't go fully into battery. No similar issues with any other ammo.
