Harassed at the State Fair

Showed my CHL and the guy still wanted to frisk me and empty my pockets. I tell him that I can't empty my pockets because my guns will fall out and that would be illegal due to it being a CONCEALED carry law. He insisted on checking for weapons. I tell him that I already have a legal weapon. He says he is checking for knives. I tell him why the heck would I carry a stupid knife for self defense if I have a GUN? I yell for the police officer. He then says, "fine, I won't make you empty your pockets, but why do you bring a gun to the fair?"

"Because it is a FREE country and I CAN. It is my constitutional HUMAN right to do so. Self defense is a basic human right. Better vote or liberals like these will take away your HUMAN rights!" He waves me through, so I get off my soap box and walk in. (this was before the election).

CSB. The LEO would've laughed at the guy, guaranteed.

The term harass has been forever ruined for me by the tx legislature...

Sec. 42.07. HARASSMENT. (a) A person commits an offense if, with intent to harass, annoy, alarm, abuse, torment, or embarrass another, he:
(1) initiates communication by telephone, in writing, or by electronic communication and in the course of the communication makes a comment, request, suggestion, or proposal that is obscene;
(2) threatens, by telephone, in writing, or by electronic communication, in a manner reasonably likely to alarm the person receiving the threat, to inflict bodily injury on the person or to commit a felony against the person, a member of his family or household, or his property;
(3) conveys, in a manner reasonably likely to alarm the person receiving the report, a false report, which is known by the conveyor to be false, that another person has suffered death or serious bodily injury;
(4) causes the telephone of another to ring repeatedly or makes repeated telephone communications anonymously or in a manner reasonably likely to harass, annoy, alarm, abuse, torment, embarrass, or offend another;
(5) makes a telephone call and intentionally fails to hang up or disengage the connection;
(6) knowingly permits a telephone under the person's control to be used by another to commit an offense under this section; or
(7) sends repeated electronic communications in a manner reasonably likely to harass, annoy, alarm, abuse, torment, embarrass, or offend another.

Maybe calming down a little bit could have helped. I've only been to the fair once since first getting my CHL......only because I hate those kinds of things. But when I got to the point of being wanded, before the girl could do it, I showed her my CHL and discreetly asked if I could speak to her supervisor. She equally discreetly summoned her supervisor, who walked me over to the DPD officer. He looked at my two IDs, smiled, and told me to have fun. They let me in...no muss, no fuss........and by the way, it was both my wife and I as we were both carrying. She showed the cop her ID too. Same result.

Same here, when I reached the " wander " in line, I just told him I needed to see a police officer. He sent me over to the police officer in the viewing box, and after checking my DL and CHL just let me go and told me to have a good time.

I reached the wander and she sent me to her supervisor. As I walked up I showed her my ID, she reached out and attempted to grab it out of my hands. So I pulled it back and said "what are you doing???" She started having a fit about me grabbing it from her and how she needs to examine it. I gave her a once over and said "Are you a cop?". She said no, but she had to look at it before taking me to him. At this point I realize somehow I've made her come unhinged because she's bobbing up and down and still yammering on about me. She takes me to the cop and starts saying loudly how I was in her face and grabbed the ID from her. I just calmly said one more time "Mam, you tried to grab it out of my hands, I didn't know what you were doing, and you caught me by surprise" to which she just ignores and continues on her rant. The officer looked at my ID for about two seconds, and I told him "Officer, I'm not sure what her issue is" to which he just rolled his eyes and said "have a nice day".
Even as I was walking away this crazy lady was still talking to herself...
It was not a fun experiance.

Given the aggravation factor, I won't be going to the state fair.

I'm not giving some "little person with a little authority" an opportunity to harass me even if I am ultimately able to overcome...

Why are you just now bringing this up? The state fair was over and done months ago.

If this really happened that way, I would think you would have posted something in the state fair thread we had running at the time.

I've been 2 or 3 times in recent years. Never a problem, showed ID and got a smile and a welcome.

Sounds like an over zealous security guard with no common sense. :smash:

(my further .02 cents)

There was a time, as happened to drjoker, if someone demanded to know why I would bring a gun to (fill in the blank) I would try a bit of patient, common sense reasoning, hoping I could, if you will, get them to understand the sense of it...

No more.

Why?

I don't have to justify myself to some self righteous nincompoop...

Excellent question.
