I specifically asked if their store had decided to stop selling AR-type rifles as I had heard some folks saying that. I was told that they had NOT stopped selling them, only that they had sold out of them. Additionally, I was told that several individuals bought multiple ARs, leading to Cabelas being sold out very rapidly. I heard another salesman tell a customer that they still had unfinished lowers for sale. All I bought was some 7.62x39mm steel case to feed my AK at the range. They were limiting it to 10 boxes per customer, so I bought ten boxes. The price was up to $6.99 from the normal $5.99. So I spent $10 more than I normally would...however, a couple of times before I bought the same stuff on sale for $4.99 a box when they had a lot of it in stock. They had no metal tins of 7.62x39mm at all. Lots of other common ammo was noticeably gone from the shelves, but some of the young guys were unboxing and stocking the shelves when I left. Not sure what calibers came in, but one guy said the stuff they were putting out was "right off the truck".

That is the case everywhere. Some folks were saying the same thing about Academy. Someone I know bought an AR-15 at Academy last Thursday. He was at the store at 8:00 AM and they had just received a shipment of 8 AR's. He told me that by the time he finished filling up the paperwork, they were all sold. Is not that they're being pulled out, it that they go as soon as they come in. Is like what happen to ammo a few years ago. Unless you walked into the store as they were unloading the ammo from the truck, you were not getting any.

I think this is the key to getting an AR. I happened to walk to the gun counter at Academy 4 years ago when they were unloading a Bushmaster. I bought it on the spot and about 5 other buyers were standing there just in case I dropped dead or was turned down.

One of my coworkers is an ex-LEO...now a reserve LEO...he stopped by one of the independent gun stores in the area and found just about everything to be flying off the shelves --even bolt action rifles. He talked to the store owner and was told that the store normally does about $3,000 a day and the previous day they had done $80,000. They had already surpassed the previous day's total when he was there and didn't know how high it would go because they still had a few hours left before closing.

It is a Merry Christmas indeed for gun store owners! You might see some new cars or boats in their driveways next month.

I did too. A new Gen 4 Glock 26 now resides at my house. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet.

That is most definitely the case everyone. And not just ARs. The same holds true for many calibers of ammo, most popular concealable handguns, PMAGs, etc. The bottom line is if you find something you want in a gun shop, it's time to pick it up, because it most likely won't be back for a while. The WHOLESALERS are out of stock, and until the manufacturers can catch up, it's gonna stay that way.
