As you may be aware on the Meet the Press show, which in Washington DC, David Gregory while grilling Wayne LaPierre, president of the NRA held up a 30 round AR15 Magazine.

This White House petition is to press charges against David Gregory for this clear violation of Washington DC law. No one should be above the law especially the liberal press.

By making honest citizens go to jail, maybe silly laws like this can be overturned.

If he's breaking the law, is he still honest?

Please define the crime here. I know having guns is generally not allowed easily in DC.

Is the possession of an empty 30 round magazine specifically against some law?

SIA

From the link:
DC High Capacity Ammunition Magazines – D.C. Official Code 7-2506.01

(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

What annoys me about petitions, more than anything else, is the whole "Appeal to the King" assumption it makes. Whether you take the petition seriously or not (like funding a Death Star), the foundational problem is that these petitions are akin to supplications to royalty.

VERY good! I knew there was something sticking in my craw about all these petitions, but couldn't put my finger on it. You nailed it. And of course he will totally ignore those he doesn't like, and publicly promote those he does.

Do they have an equivalent of a district attorney there? Might be better off to bring it to his attention. Or the Chief of the DC Police Department.

Yeah, they got an AG.

He would actually have to file the charges before the police could arrest him, right? He probably won't.

I'm fairly anti petition at this point, however, I feel like advocating criminalizing anyone for possessing a 30 round mag is a step in the wrong direction for our cause.

Seems like it should have a very positive effect for our cause....arresting this guy for something as ridiculous as having a 30 round mag would get big coverage, since he's a presstitute, and highlight the absurdity of laws like this. If they charge and convict the guy and send him to jail, at worst, it would merely be an exercise of equal protection under the law --since that's what they do to anyone who isn't a pressitute. At best, if he got charged and found not-guilty for some reason, or the charges were dismissed, it might make it harder to prosecute non-presstitutes.

My thinking exactly, and in that light, I went to http://oag.dc.gov/DC/OAG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; last night and clicked on the email link and sent the following message:
To whomever it concerns,

I would like to file a complaint against Meet the Press host David Gregory for being in violation of DC gun laws by being in possession of an illegal 30 round magazine for an AR15, on his show yesterday, Sunday morning, which takes place at NBC's studios in Washington DC.

It is illegal for anyone except a sworn peace officer to be in possession of this dangerous death dealing high-capacity assault rifle magazine. David Gregory is not a sworn peace officer, and the laws should ALWAYS be applied evenly, regardless of whether the offender is a big name celebrity, or a blue collar worker, or a gang member. There can be NO exceptions to the enforcement of the DC laws against these dangerous weapons of mass murder.

If you do not arrest this man tomorrow, it will be proof that you do not enforce your laws evenly, and that will make both DC's law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor's office a national laughingstock.

Awaiting your reply,

The Annoyed Man

Just think how many people he could have slaughtered with that high capacity assault rifle clip. They need to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law to keep us all safe.

I'm sure they'll claim it was disabled or belonged to a authorized armed police officer that guards the studio. They'll find a way around the law because they are the elite and the laws only apply to us mere subjects.
