AK-47 help

This is for a coworker....

Her situation is that her husband passed away last year. He was a big outdoorsman and had plenty of firearms including a fully automatic AK-47. So now, my coworker is going through the process of selling off what she doesn't need or want or what doesn't hold any sentimental value.

Question being, could someone point me to a source where I can find out what, if anything, she can do with this weapon. I have limited knowledge when it comes to fully automatic weapons and the NFA. As I understand it, there are some weapons that are transferrable but there's a lot of paperwork and taxes that go with it.

Any help would be appreciated. She's trying to do this on the up-and-up and since I could theoritically end up working for her one day, I'd rather assist with the correct information. Thanks!!!

I'm sure the PM said "sell it to me!" ;-)

I'm not a legal expert, but if I would recommend you find a class III (code for "machine gun") dealer to assist you with the legalities. The recipient will need to have gone through a specific process (including paying hundreds of dollars in fees to Uncle Sam) just to be able to legally receive the rifle.

Am I that transparent, GlockenHammer? :o

Yeah, I was asking, but I is a moron, because I didn't see the 72 references to "FULLY AUTOMATIC". Doh.

Which will lead me to my next post...

If the full auto AK is already papered, it can be transferred - people will pay some serious $$$ for a transferrable full-auto anything.

If it's NOT already papered, then the best thing to do is shut up, part it out, and thoroughly destroy the receiver (sob!) as even turning it in to the authorities may result in harassment, if not actual prosecution, for illegal possession of a machine gun.
