Howdy everyone.

Lots of folks here on the forum know me and can vouch for me, many have bought guns from me before, or I have sold them a gun. Just saying that up front so no one gets the idea that I'm trying to pull a fast one here.

I'm honestly thinking about selling my two AR-15's. My physical condition prohibits any prolonged standing these days, so I don't even get to the range much. I don't use either of these AR's and I know lots of people are looking for one, so I would rather see someone owning them who can use them. Just doesn't make a lot of sense for them to just sit in my gun safe. Sure don't need them for home defense, my shotgun or handguns will take care of that.

My problem, and the reason for this post, is that I honestly don't have a realistic idea of what to ask for them if I decide to sell. I know all about the current hype and frenzy regarding AR-15's, and I know they are in short supply...... but at the same time, I don't have any intention of ripping anyone off.

With all that said, I'm going to post their descriptions here in the hope that those more knowledgeable than I am abour AR's and a good asking price can help me out. I would sincerely appreciate your responses.

The first is a Bushmaster AR-15, Model XM-15-E2S.
Excellent condition, no box or papers
It is currently in tactical configuration with EOtech, UTG rails and Crimson Trace foregrip with red laser and light. http://www.crimsontracelaser.com/ar-15- ... p-108.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also has removable tactical flip up rear sight, wide tactical charging handle and black two-point sling. I can remove these accessories and sell separate, or leave them on the rifle if the price reflects them being included. My son is a Police Officer here and I have this one set up pretty much like the AR-15 that he carries in his patrol vehicle.



The other is a Colt AR-15, Model SP-1.
Serial number indicates a manufacture date of 1974. Excellent condition, no box or papers.
Has GI Issue OD green sling, aluminum mags.

A friend of mine owns a gun store, he hasn't jumped on the price gouging band wagon, all the prices the dealers are paying are still relatively the same as pre Connecticut. I think it is more a moral question rather than a monetary one. If you need the money than get what you can, it is your property. BTW I have been looking for another AR, but I own one already so I will not make you an offer and will allow someone who has not had the joy of owning one to have the first chance. That is just my opinion sir.

I don't know that I agree with the statement that ARs are in short supply. There were many available Sunday afternoon at the FW gun show. Just came with a hefty price tag.

That being said, I could have purchased a lower and an upper at the show and walked out the door with a functional AR for under $1k. Of course I built the same rifle last summer for under half that price.

Either of the rifles you listed (as configured) would have a tag of at least $3k, but they were still sitting on the table close to show closing.

It is a sellers market. On 12/29 I just purchased a new Bushmaster XM15 E2S M4 Type Carbine - 16" barrel from Academy. It comes with a 6 position telescoping stock. I paid $899.00 + tax. This exact same gun is being listed for $2,100.00 on another site. Actually, several have been listed and they seem to be selling in the $1800-$2000 range. Unbelievable.

When I bought mine, Academy had three different AR's come in off the truck the previous night. A guy who got there before me picked up a Colt for $1,199.00 and a guy behind me picked up a Windham for $799.00. I have seen an identical (if not the same Windham) being listed for $1,900.00 on the other site. The guy at Academy was shocked that they had not raised their prices to match competitors.

My suggestion is to put them up on auction on GunBroker with no set reserve or "buy it now" price. Let the market decide what they are worth. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

That's a good idea, then you would'nt feel you were ripping anyone off. Prolly have a nice chunk of change also!

That seems like the best way to go, but if I decide to sell, I'm pretty sure I would be more inclined to go with FTF transactions here in Texas. I've never had a bad FTF deal yet, especially with the great people on this forum.

I'm pretty sure I bought a P7 from you a couple of years back - if that was you, I can vouch that DaveT is a good seller with excellent communication.

Also - Dave - my recommendation, if you are not trying to profit much now off of those guns is to hold on to them. Your son may want them, or even you in the unlikely event of any type of ban.

I see lots of high prices, but I don't see many selling for those high prices. Lots of the unprepared, non-enthusiast crowd that put off buying an AR, already picked them up and moderate mark ups. The AR market is in sort of a stalemate "wait and see" IMHO.

Yes it is - I just sold my P380 there last week.

As of this post the site is down. But it was up this morning.
