Clearly it's a Glock with a high capacity ammunition clip and a silencer.

Is that the media or departments fault?

The key is it is a "AK-47 Type" rifle.
Obviously because it has bullets, a clip, and a shoulder thingy that flips up.

Don't mock the experts, I understand ...
Sen. Einstein had personally looked at pictures of guns in 1993, and again in 2012.

The funny part is that's probably one of the department's own rifles. It's highly unlikely they pulled that out of the evidence room; high polish Jennings and Davis .25 autos aren't very scary.

Who knew Kenner was even more clueless than Barbie?

Here's the thing: it was the AP who wrote that up. The AP (Alinsky Press, IMHO) is notoriously anti-gun. IF you are able to find a pro-gun story from the AP in the middle of the 10K anti-gun stories they seemingly write each day, then you have skill. That said, who knows why that man in Kenner was holding that AR. It could have been a pic taken showing off the local PDs new patrol rifles. And then the AP took the pic and made their usual anti-gun garbage article using it. Like I said before, I think they're ignorant about firearms ON PURPOSE, they KNOW IT and are PROUD OF IT.

Lived in Metairie (borders both Kenner and New Orleans) for over 30 years. My wife was born and raised there. Second happiest day of my life was when we moved across the lake. Happiest day of my life was when we moved to Texas.
My guess is if this cop thinks that is an AK, then he must have been transferred to Conn and was the cop who couldn't tell the difference between a shotgun and an AR (weapon found in the car).
