Late this evening there was a knock at the front door while my wife and I were preparing for bed. I picked up my carry gun which I had just taken off and put it back on and went to answer the door. It turns out that it was the next door neighbor kid asking to get his ball from my back yard (I guess the kids play late during spring break). As I returned to the kitchen I found my wife putting her pistol back away. It warms my heart to know that I have backup ready without even asking.

Sounds like you got a keeper there,hope you folks have a long life together.

Dave, it sounds like you've not only got a good wife, you've got good neighbors.

We've also been startled by an unexpected knock at the front door, only to find that the neighbors' grandkids had lost a ball over the fence, and wanted permission to retrieve it.

I give great credit to the neighbors for teaching manners to their progeny. Quite unlike the trash who used to live across the street, whose teens had a habit of raiding my back porch fridge for beverages unsuitable for minors.

And no, they didn't knock nor ask permission.

I believe the biggest boost you can give a kid these days is to thank them for coming by and letting you know what was going on, and if they could retrieve their ball from your property...

I'd recommend you go over and tell their parents you appreciate the kids respect, and let them know that was the absolute mature thing to do, and that if they need anything, anytime, they are more than welcome to come over and ask...

That will go a long way with those kids, and your nieghbors...
