Glock today unveiled a factory version of the "Frankenstein" .45 ACP Glock - calling it a Glock 30S ... this is basically a Glock 30SF frame with a Glock 36 slide

Some folks have been doing this themselves for a while now, apparently.

They need a single stack sub compact 9, although I'm sure I'd still prefer the SA one better

I considered both the XDm .45 Compact and G30. The G30 feels much better in my hand than the XDm (the bigger trigger loop knocking my pinky off the grip bugs me). I really couldn't discern a size difference. Hence, I went with a G30.
What is the advantage of a G36 slide if the frame is still as wide as a G30. I'm confused by that. The picture also doesn't help with any clarity for comparison.

Not too long ago I purchased a Glock 30 SF
It's my daily CCW.
I cannot see a difference using the Glock 36 slide? Is it smaller?
My G36sf conceals just fine. I use a Desantis IWB holster.
After 3 minuets I can't tell I'm wearing it.
I love taking it to the range as my Glock 21 mags fit perfectly and reduces reloading.

Not sure if I like it or not.
It's interesting, at least.

My impression of how that evolved....
R & D guys were saying "Hmm... SHOT is in a few weeks and we have to have a new product, what can we throw together so we can introduce something new? Hey guys, how about this slide on this frame and we can just delete a letter on the next batch of slides!"
all in fun.

Doesn't something have to be "veiled" in the first place, in order to be "unveiled?"

The 36 is already pretty big. I don't see any point of a 30s except 21 Mag's will fit. The 36 and 30 are huge compared to my 27. The grip length and height are closer to 19. Single stack 9mm and 45 in a sub compact size is what they need and a single stack compact 29 in 10mm. I wont hold my breath for any of that!

If glock took the 29 and made it a single stack with 8 plus 1 capacity I would buy two. Like I said I am not going to hold my breath.

Everything is relative. My father pocket carries a 36. I carry a 30 IWB 90% and OWB the other 10%. Easily concealed and not too bulky. I still don't see the advantage of this odd blend 30S. Either you want a narrow 36 or the 30 for more capacity/compatibility with 21 mags.

Since a lot of people were already swapping out the slide for this exact reason, Glock probably just decided to standardize the practice for the mag compatibility reason. Not earth-shattering, but it does demonstrate a bit of consumer responsiveness.
