Unload it, case it, lock it, put it in the trunk?

My guess, unless the "secure" facilities include a vehicle search, in which case you're....um, in an unenviable postion...


IIRC, tucked somehwere in the Brady Bill was a provision which mandated a NICS check every time a firearm was gotten out of pawn. Should be a non-issue with a CHL, but I would think the paperwork would still be a royal pain...

A tough problem ya presented there. My brother is also a sales rep. who services some "highly secured" facilities. While he rarely has to spend the night out of town, the calls can sometimes be without a lot of advance notice. Unfortunately, he's had a "scare" or two with gate guards to the point that he often leaves the pistola at home.

I have had my vehicle searched countless times. The vehicle searches by plant security never went further than a look see. Never had bags opened. Consoles and glove boxes opened. Never my person. Never been wanded.

Most posted parking areas in Texas are not 30.06 compliant. I have parked outside a gate and walked into a facility.

I am not advocating carrying where posted in a non-compkliant manner. However, self defense is a right given by God.

Texas sure needs that law to make parking areas free from posting.

Put it in the trunk before you go in. 30.06 only prohibits you possessing the weapon under the authority of a CHL. If it is in the trunk and not on your person you are not violating 30.06.

If I were facing your situation, I'd park in an adjacent non-posted parking lot, or on the street. However, as anygunanywhere said, there are very few proper 30.06 signs on parking lots, so I wouldn't think this problem would arise very often. Remember also, the sign must be on every entrance to the parking lot.

I wouldn't enter a true "secured" parking area that was government property with a gun in the car.

If the "secured" area was privately owned, then I wouldn't enter if they had a 30.06 compliant sign, or if their guard verbally told me "no guns." Otherwise, you haven't been given notice under 30.06.

I wouldn't use a pawn shop. It's going to cost you money and you'll have to fill out a 4473 every time you pick it up. I wouldn’t drop it off at a police station, even if they would let you do it. They may have a ridiculous policy like the Harris County Sheriff’s Office that requires every gun they possess to be run through their Ballistics Lab, which will mean you won’t be taking it back any time soon. I once gave the police department suggestion to someone who had to cross into Mexico, but that was before I learned the full story about Harris County’s policy. I know of no other agency that has such a policy, but I won’t risk it myself, so I can’t recommend it to others.

Instead of a pawn shop, try a gun shop. They (almost) all offer some level of gunsmithing, and you don't have to do the 4473 to get your own gun back from a gunsmith (unlike redeeming a pawn).

Something along the lines of, "Say, I have to go to this secure facility, so I thought I'd drop this off so y'all can dust it for me. Ten bucks okay?"

Clever...Thats another idea I may have to explore when I go to Mexico next time...

The park somewhere & walk in has been my policy for a while. When asked why I do it I tell them I have to sit in a vehicle too much & need the walking to stretch back out. Never had it questioned & most really say something like, "you are right. I need to walk more too." Gunshop is a great new idea to me. I would check the shop out 1st. Shurely they would not charge you. They are supposed to be on our side.
