How often do you practice and how many round per session do you go through? I'm a new and would like to know. Is it better to spend a lot of time and ammo per session or keep it short and sweet? So far, I've gone through 750 rounds in 5 session in less than a month.

It really depends. There are periods when I spend a lot of time at the range, and other times not so much. Also, I'll shoot pistols a lot for a while, and then I'll focus on rifles for a while, so it is difficult to say how often I go or how much I shoot. But just 3 days ago I took my wife to the range, and we must have set a new record low for round count. She's taking a renewal class on Monday and wanted to get in a couple of range trips before the class. I was working with her on her shooting more than on my own. I only shot 50 rounds. She shot 100. More typically, we'll shoot 200-300 rounds between us. We're going again tomorrow after the rally in Dallas.

I try to get to the range at least 2 times per month.
When I go, I will normally shoot 1-2 mags from my Bodyguard .380
Then I shoot 1-2 mags out of my M&P9, and M&P9c
Then I will shoot 200 - 300 rounds out of my Ruger Mark III 22/45
When I first got my 9mm's, and didn't have the others, I would go and shoot 100 - 200 rounds per session, but once I got used to my 9's, and got the .22, it made the range more fun, and cheaper!

It's better to shoot 25 rounds correctly and learn correct shooting techniques; than to shoot 200 rounds incorrectly and reinforce bad habits.

with this. Sometimes I go and shoot only 50 rounds with my two .45s. I usually take a couple hundred rounds in case I see a problem that needs to be worked out.
I have far fewer problems with the rifle and usually shoot 30-60 rounds. I have not done a 3-gun competition yet, so most of my rifle shooting at the range has just been sighting in and for fun so far.
I probably go through more shotgun rounds now that I've started doing 5-stand matches. Anywhere from 75-200 rounds once a month.
I don't reload yet, but I'm beginning to seriously consider it.

I've been trying to get to the range every other week since I got my chl. I went Monday and put 400 rds down range, 350 through my m&p 9c and 50 through my pf9. The way ammo has been I will probably cut that amount back to about 200 altogether.

I had student that kept going to the range by himself every week , blasting away and he would show me his target, which got worse and worse. I kept telling him to STOP. He's a new shooter and was developing some really weird habits being unsupervised.
Like an old Band Director used to tell me/us...."Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect."

Not nearly as much as I use to. It sucks the fun right out of shooting when it cost you .40 to .60 cents with every pull of the trigger!

That's why I reload.
With current prices for powder. primers, bullets for .45 .38 spcl, and 9mm I'm averaging $6.67 a box of 50. Thank God, because if I shoot once a week, I go through 200-300 rounds. I prefer to shoot more than once a week, however Wednesdays are heavy . Now Next week I start loading for my AR and my .308 so there goes the budget.

My thoughts exactly. This is where professional guidance can really pay off for you. Seeing a good instructor who can show you any areas you need to change; grip, stance, etc can really get you on track in your practice. Once you have a very clear understanding of exactly what is your best technique, then practice that with as few as 25 rounds once a week (though I think 50-100 is better). I find that keeps muscle memory fresh and you continue to improve. At home, dry fire every day for a short while to help learn trigger control for cheap (all safety rules followed). Of course, if you want to fly more rounds downrange, by all means, enjoy!

Yeah... You are right. I use to reload. I have all the proper equipment. I even have the brass for most of my rounds. Time is my issue. I have a single stage press. It was relaxing, back in the day.
Maybe it is time to start back up again. Unfortunately, unlike ammo, I have no powder, primers and very few bullets.

once a week, weather permitting... I do 100 rds of .22LR on my S&W 22A and 50-200 rds of 9mm, depending of how what guns I bring and what I'm practicing.

I shoot 20 rounds every 2 weeks (2 magazines worth in my Glock 30). I do this shooting at home on my property, then once a month I go to the range and shoot around 200 rds. Although now that ammo is getting harder to get, I will probably be curbing my range trips.
