Does anyone else's xdm or xd have a rattle with a full load in there mag. Does the off brand mags do that as well?

I have an XD9SC. I use all SA magazines. I've never experienced a rattle. It does have a tendency to give a "clunk" when I'm using the standard 16RD XD mags (full) with the grip x-tension. Seems to shoot just fine, clunk or no.

Perfectly normal. Though I'm old school: on double-stack mags I always charge one fewer than advertised, and I always slap the back of any newly-charged magazine against my off-hand to seat the cartridges against the back of the mag. Probably does nothing effective in new magazines, but I do it all the same.

I have a bunch of SA XD9 mags, fewer XDm .40 mags, and only five XD45 mags. I just checked some of each (because I'd never worried about this before) and they all showed some signs of "rattle." But I've never had a problem with any of them...well, one; but that mag was dropped from two stories onto concrete. I think it hit smack on the feed lips. It was retired with a suitable ceremony. ;-)

I've had Glocks, 1911s, XDs, Sigs, and Kel Tecs do this. I don't give it much thought.

My CZ mags and aftermarket mags do this but don't hear them when carrying, just annoying. I'd rather have full load with potential rattle than one less with no rattle.

I have 4 SA mags, 2 for carry and two for the range. I have experience the death rattle but we only hit the range once a month. Is it a usage wear issue?

Not sure what causes the rattle but I had it with a brand new XDSC 7 years ago

I checked all 4 of my mags and one did, the rest didn't. Nothing special about it, was a factory 19 rounder as were the rest (one was a compact mag).

They will do that. As mentioned above, try slapping the mag to allign all rounds to the front or rear of the mag (I've never had feeding issues with a SA mag slapped to the front - the recoil jolts them around anyway). The other option that works is to simply remove one round - that has always done the trick. I simply save these mags for the range and don't think too much about them. Not really sure what causes it. It is an annoying rattle. I find it happens more with my .45 than 9mm.

My Glock mags will do this sometimes. I find that taping the back side of the mag against a table or my hand to seat all of the rounds furthest back solves this.

I have an XD45C and some of the 13 round mags rattle and some of the others don't. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. The ones that rattle don't seem to do it when they are in the pistol with a closed slide and have not had any reliability issues. My Glock and HK mags don't rattle.
