Police say the homicide rate is a reflection of the city's gang problem and a proliferation of guns. Chicago has for years tried to cut off the flow of guns. It has what city officials have called the strictest handgun ordinance in the U.S. But police officials say more needs to be done, and that penalties for violating gun laws should be stiffer.
Maybe they should have even
stricter gun laws than they have now. Surely that would solve it (/sarcasm)

I just googled "2013 murder grapevine texas." Here's the top listings:
The first four references are for murder mystery dinner theater. The fifth one references a January 19th husband/ex-wife murder/suicide.
Here is the same search, but for Chicago ("2013 murder chicago illinois"):
Funny thing is, there's guns all over Grapevine. What's "worse," a whole bunch of them are dreaded black rifles of mass death. None were used in any murders. ONE pistol was used in the January 19th murder/suicide.
Grapevine is a largely right of center town. Chicago is not. Grapevine (and the surrounding towns) routinely elect conservative candidates. Chicago does not. Grapevine is awash in guns. Chicago "is not" (quote marks = literary equivalent of wink-wink nudge-nudge). The 2012 murder rate per 100,000 people in Chicago was 19.4 (
source). I couldn't find the number for 2012 in Grapevine, but in 2011 there were 7 Grapevine residents killed in a murder/suicide single event on Christmas day (not far from my house) for a town of 47,385 at the time. Those 7 people were killed with a handgun when a distraught estranged father murdered his family with a handgun and then killed himself. Absent that one aberrant event in 2011, there would have been NO murders in Grapevine in 2011. There is a wide gulf in politics and cultural values between the two towns...........and one of them has a huge murder rate. Maybe a little self-examination is in order on the part of Chicagoans?

Nah. Never happen. They are too focused on draining the government teat.

The latest update on Pier's last night is Chicago and NY's gun violence issues are the fault of the other states. They said 90% of the crimes commited are from people using guns that came from neighboring states. So it's still the guns fault and not the criminals. I hope my guns never commit a crime while I'm away from them.

no, it's the fault of the gun makers and of those states that allow the evil devices to be sold to rank civilians

So the drug issue solely rests on the countries that grow/make the stuff and not the druggie?
The drunk driving issue is the fault of the producer?
Oh, wait. What was I thinking? There is no such this as personal responsibility in the left/socialist/democrat/commie/criminal world.

Y'all are way too harsh. 40 murders per month only equals 480 for the year. So Chicago is on pace to have FEWER murders this year than last. Geez, can't catch a little slack around here.

So the fault of death-by-Tobacco is the Tobacco Cos. I couldn't believe it, it is still legal to buy and sell the killer number #1 in US. Where are those nice-to-be around to stop the massacre committed by Tobacco?
As per CDC:
In the United States, smoking is responsible for about one in five deaths annually (i.e., about 443,000 deaths per year, and an estimated 49,000 of these smoking-related deaths are the result of secondhand smoke exposure)
Killing others with your smoke, isn't that a murder?
49K per year for secondhand exposure is like 5-6X more than all death by firearms!!
Tobacco: 49,000 death per year
Firearms: 08,000 death per year.
