LeRay Man Faces Weapons Possessions Charges
Story Updated: Jan 7, 2013
A town of LeRay man was accused Sunday of possessing high-capacity magazines for an assault rifle.
Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies say 32 year old Nathan Haddad allegedly had five 30-round magazines for an AR-15 rifle in his possession.
Police say the magazines were found during a vehicle check on Steinhilber Road in the town of LeRay.
Haddad was charged with five counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon and arraigned in Watertown town court.

Yes. They will in red states. Besides, this ain't over until it's over. Watch for a lawsuit coming to New York real soon.

Never been to NY and have no plans to go. Feel for those who for whatever reason can't leave.

Ex-military. Good luck Mr. Haddad.
Injured veteran arrested in weapons investigation
By DAVID C. SHAMPINE

MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2013
A former Fort Drum soldier who was injured in special forces training was arrested Sunday night when he was found with prohibited rounds of ammunition, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said.
Nathan H. Haddad, 32, of 25240 Waddingham Road, town of LeRay, faces five felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was released without bail before town of Watertown Justice Andrew N. Capone, and is ordered to appear Wednesday in town of LeRay Court.
Deputies made the arrest shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday on Steinhilber Road in the town of LeRay, where Mr. Haddad is accused of possessing five 30-round AR-15 magazines of ammunition. He is cited under a state penal law statute that prohibits possession of “a large capacity ammunition feeding device.” The ammunition was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop, according to the sheriff’s office.
Mr. Haddad was deployed four times during his decade in the Army, the Times reported in a story featuring him in September 2009. At that time, he was a staff sergeant with the 3rd Battalion, 85th Infantry, Warrior in Transition Unit at Fort Drum, undergoing aquatic physical therapy for an injury he suffered in South Korea during special forces training. He was discharged from the Army in October 2010, according to Fort Drum.
--------
Note: I believe the part about him being injured in Korea is inaccurate. And, the magazines may have been unloaded. The press jumps the gun again.

It may not, but they've had a 10 round limit for a while. I wish they would stop calling them high capacity magazines. 30 rounders are the normal capacity for an AR. Anything less is low capacity.

Interesting article. Here is another with info. I wonder what the traffic stop was for and why he was searched? Most traffic stops are not searched unless there are other circumstances. This is concerning as well. This ban may be coming soon to a town near all of us

It was in New York. It's a state law. New York ≠ Texas. LeRay is a very small town upstate, northwest of Fort Drum. No small town Texas sheriff's deputy is going to go along with a magazine seizure..........unless maybe it's near Austin.......particularly when you've got Gov. Perry and Greg Abbott telling the fed to go pound sand over everything from gun rights to economic policy.

This happened before the new law passed.
Story is dated Jan 7
New Law didn't pass the Senate until Jan 14. Not sure when it went into effect.

In case anyone else would like to contribute to Mr. Haddad's legal defense fund, here is the link.

Hopefully some good can come of this travesty.
Maybe we'll see a few eyes opened to the stupidity of reactionary, poorly conceived, politically motivated, do-nothing laws.
